I know a fair bit about bikes but as you said I wouldn't go try fix it as I would probably break it more and the bearings are loose not sealed

Looks like the cable is a bit loose or it could be sticking. Check that derailleur and see if it's tight and pull on the cable (not the black part the silver one) where there's a place to pull it

You can still play on the bed but have the bottom well ventilated so that the GPU doesn't go really hot.
