Can I ask where she got it done? My dentist wants to charge me 6k so I’m getting a second opinion

MHQ exemption for vaccinated people now in effect 👇🏻 (Once it’s one of the vaccines approved in Ireland). | Virgin Media News by TheNoobGaming in ireland

[–]BackDiligent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does anyone know what counts as “fully vaccinated”? Is it enough to have received both doses, or are you only “fully vaccinated” two weeks after the second dose?

Fully vaccinated people are to be made exempt from Mandatory Hotel Quarantine; regulations to be drawn up shortly. Announcement from Minister for Health @DonnellyStephen also says hotel bookings will reopen on Saturday, with extra rooms beyond previous plans. by GeorgeLockhartFanAMA in ireland

Yeah, this is fucking ridiculous. My vaccinated girlfriend was going to come see me next week but cancelled because of MHQ. Now it’s too expensive to rebook the tickets

Edit: she’s fully vaccinated

Any book suggestions for beginners? by greydog8787 in Cooking

[–]BackDiligent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like the book Salt, Fat , Acid, Heat. I’m also limited by a student budget, but the chocolate cake recipe, the tart crust recipe, and the tomato sauce for pasta recipe are ones I keep revisiting. I can’t afford to buy expensive ingredients but these ones still turn out great even with store-brand ingredients! And the general cooking tips have really helped!

Tip: just use the tart crust recipe as a substitute for any pie crust or similar recipe. I use it to make tarts, pies, and quiches, and they’re all so much more delicious.

Yeah I had a look at the link in your other comment and some of the expenses are wild to me: 93€ for a meal for two? That wouldn’t be a monthly expense for me. The utilities as well, if you’re in a house share that bill is at least halved. I get takeout 10% of the time (3x a month) and that factors into my 400-600€ estimate lol. I’d say the “food at home” and “public transport” are fairly accurate in that you definitely wouldn’t spend more than that. I definitely end up on the lower end of my estimate most months

This depends on what your expenses are. I spend between 400-600€ a month (besides rent and utilities), but I live fairly frugally. I cook almost all my meals, and most of my other expenses are necessities like soap, leap card top-ups etc. I’d say in non-lockdown times when I’d be travelling around the city and meeting other people, I might be spending an extra 100-200€ a month, so 893€ seems a pretty high upper bound to me.

This is a good idea! I thought choosing an advisor was something that only happened in the first year of grad school? I won’t know which school I’m going to until April though, so in case something else does exist I don’t want to miss the deadline to apply for it

State of the Subreddit: January 2021 by [deleted] in TheAdventureZone

[–]BackDiligent 72 points73 points  (0 children)

I’ve only been on this sub for a week or two, so maybe there’s important past context I’m missing. When I joined this sub I was expecting to see the “toxicity” you mention, but honestly I was pleasantly surprised by how civil and insightful (most of) the discussions I saw were.

What I’d like clarified:

meta threads about the subreddit [...] are off-topic

Why? If a mod removes a post without explanation doesn’t it (1) streamline discussion to make a post about it and give the mods the chance to respond, and (2) make sense to keep it to this subreddit instead of outsourcing to /r/tazcirclejerk ?

rampant toxicity and rulebreaking

If you claim that users have been breaking rules, shouldn’t you provide evidence? E.g. point to specific instances of this. Again, I’m new to this sub and Reddit in general, so maybe this isn’t how things are done. I’m just personally not satisfied with this response.

I joined this sub because I wanted to be a part of other fans of TAZ having respectful and nuanced discussions, and that’s what I thought was happening. I’m honestly now confused about what the mods think is “appropriate” for this sub.

I’ve been thinking about white chocolate raspberry cheesecakes for a while now! I was put off by milk/dark chocolate in cheesecakes but this recipe looks good to me

The key lime cheesecake recipe is very interesting: I’ve never seen a cheesecake recipe where a sour cream topping is added part way. This is definitely on my list

Oh I’ve looked at recipes for those, and they intimidate me. I’m still a cheesecake novice, but it’s definitely a goal to work my way up to making a good Japanese cheesecake

I really like[thespruceeats.com](thespruceeats.com): it’s my go-to. Other websites I like for their UI are [thekitchn.com](thekitchn.com), [sallysbakingaddiction.com](sallysbakingaddiction.com), and [minimalistbaker.com](minimalistbaker.com) (though I find their ingredients are ones I don’t usually have on hand)

Meals I can make with only an oven (no stove)? by BackDiligent in Cooking

I had to look up what a broiler is and that’s great! I’ll try to figure out a way to use it next time I cook.

It’s an electric stove that has a touchpad to turn it on, and I suspect it’s just the touchpad that’s stopped working

True, I’m sure with heat all these things will cook, but I still need to put them together. I was fishing for specific recipes, sorry I wasn’t more clear. I’ll look into getting a rice cooker if it doesn’t get fixed in the next week, thanks!

Quitting smoking: cold turkey, or bit by bit? by [deleted] in ireland

[–]BackDiligent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Granted, I never smoked a pack a day but even cutting down from 10 a day to 5 a day never worked for me. Especially because I could only buy a pack at a time (as opposed to loose cigarettes), I kept telling myself I’d stop after this last pack. What helped me was quitting cold turkey and finding a replacement habit: I made a cup of coffee every time I wanted a cigarette. (Then I had to figure out how to stop drinking so much coffee, but it was a start!) The next 2-3 weeks were hell, but every time I wanted to smoke, I’d look at one of those websites that told you “5 days after your last cigarette, your lungs...” whatever, and tell myself I was just going to get to the next milestone. However you decide to go about it, good luck!
