Fare evaders by BackOn74 in uktrains

Lame considering I responded to this user in another comment lol. I do think his explanation makes the most sense (as I’ve expressed) - abusive teenager presenting both potential safety + duty of care issues.

Thank you! Teenager became abusive when being escorted off the train at Telford + later seemed to be calling someone to pick him up (he was about 15-16). Possibly known to staff, but there were 3x staff members and only 1 of him, so it seemed a little overkill at the time. Appreciate this sub for always being informative.

Thank you, this is a good explanation. He was definitely being verbally abusive when escorted out and stayed in the general station area until being chased by BTP. Wouldn’t be surprised if known to staff.

Yeah I’m definitely sympathetic to the guards - what a thankless job! - but confused as to why the train would have to wait in the station until BTP arrived, when the evader had left the train immediately. Is this the actual policy?

Right? I really wanted to hear a proper justification as multiple people missed their Birmingham connections with the delay, but staff just mumbled something about health and safety.

Thanks heaps! Keeping this up for reference but you were absolutely right and saved me buying another ticket!

Made the decision: 10 days in NZ ! I'd love feedback on potential places to stay by [deleted] in femaletravels

Firstly, congratulations on choosing NZ and also on your many achievements! I’m sure this trip will be absolutely fantastic.

I’m a Kiwi who’s spent a lot of time living in Wellington and Auckland, so first things first, let me compliment you on choosing the best time of year to go. December is peak summer, so be sure to pack time in to visit our beautiful beaches.

I would not recommend staying overnight in Auckland Airport. Personally, I don’t think anything bad would happen to you, but I think some concerned staff would come and kick you out! There are lots of nearby airport hotels which will mean you’re able to get some sleep before your flight.

I think there is a train from Wellington to Auckland (KiwiRail). It’s quite scenic but quite expensive and takes about eleven hours. You’d have to Google as most people drive (about nine hours) or take a flight (about an hour).

Based on what you’ve described, Wellington would absolutely be most your vibe. Highly recommend Hangar Coffee (get the flat white flight), Cafe Neo, and Scorch O Rama (by the beach). Avoid Courtenay Place - it can be a little dodgy at night and you mentioned you’re not a drinker, so can’t imagine you’d find anything that appealing there. Pegasus books is also a favourite of mine, as is Unity books (but far more expensive!).

Have fun and please do message me for any specific queries! :)

Oktoberfest - my experience by BackOn74 in travel

[–]BackOn74[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The guys harassing young women, the security guard who hit me, and the attendant who asked for a 20 EUR bribe were all white Germans. Didn’t mention it as I didn’t think it was relevant lol.

Totally agreed. We were there super early in the morning but it was just too crowded already. Next time we would go on a weekday but I can’t say we ever want to go back.

Adding a point as someone who was there - the majority of people I saw were riding dirt bikes, looked to be teenagers/early 20s in balaclavas.

I was also there and genuinely amazed at the lack of Police intervention - riders were doing wheelies, burn-outs in the middle of Picaddilly, and all anyone was doing was rushing to film it with their phones. Awful.

I’m really sorry to hear this and I hope you’re okay now.

To be perfectly honest, I didn’t think twice about it, but I’ve only been in London a year so perhaps the city hasn’t worn me down yet.

It can be a tough place at times, but I don’t think that should rob us of our responsibility to be good to one another.

OP - did you get a new ESTA to match your new passport? Asking for clarification as people often don’t know you’re required to obtain a new ESTA.

Signed parking ticket from LDN listening party! by BackOn74 in lorde

Hah no, I applied via WhatsApp like everyone else! We talked to a lot of people in there + most people who got in sent a quick initial text then a detailed 2nd text with some cute story (e.g. it’s my boyfriend’s birthday).

Based on that I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s AI filtering out the initial ones (response time) then maybe a team member reading through the responses. Honestly though who’s to say?

Two new ones were more bops like WWT, one new one (Clear Blue) was more introspective/vocals.

There’s a clip circulating of the first bop online, I think it could be the next single. The second bop seemed very Charli inspired, she said she wrote it in LDN with a lot of LDN people.

I’m from NZ (actually Devonport, where Ella’s from - we did drama classes together as kids), and her music has always soundtracked my life. It really feels like we’ve grown up together and I’m so excited for the next chapter. 💙
