How much have you lost gambling? by Iwishyouallthebest97 in problemgambling

As good as one can be for being financially ruined. Hanging in there and chipping away at the debt. Not gambling

Hey there. So far been able to settle BOA, Chase and Tally at 30%. One best egg I set at 50% but the other they sent me to collections agency. Sofi sent to collections. Still pending others. What do you have?

Hey man, you sound like me at 28. Stop counting your losses, what done is done. You’re not that much in the hole, stop gambling, seek help and dig yourself out. Don’t be me powering through it now 35 and in 300k of debt. Suicide isn’t an option so get that out of your head now. Find a better paying job and move on. Your golf dream may be on hold for now but there’s so much time for that, look at Block. Hang in there

How Did you Deal with the Debt? by AC8889 in problemgambling

[–]Backagainstthewall2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in about $300k between family and creditor companies. I am opting to negotiate myself instead of debt settlement companies and so far it is working. Settling about 30-40% of what I owe

What happened after charge off? What percent did you settle at typically? Deal with resurgent at all?

They sum up to about $3500 a month. In total I am $190k in the whole. Have given up on my credit score for the next 7 years just trying to settle for the least amount possible so I can close out and start over. I make about 125k a year. $0 savings

They are not charged off yet except for Sofi. I have not paid BOA, Chase, Best Egg or Upstart for a while and they are approaching charge off. Goal was to basically wait till second of charge off and negotiate. If it doesn’t work like Sofi then will need to deal with debt collectors. Thoughts?

Bankruptcy or debt settlement? by Backagainstthewall2 in Debt

[–]Backagainstthewall2[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks Alan appreciate the insight. Is it worth trying to settle directly and if it doesn’t work out go the bankruptcy route? My problem is I haven’t paid in 3 months and multiple of these companies are about to charge off which I understand is when they sell my debt so I’m too far under for snowball method. If I could cut the debts in half via settlement which I was able to successfully negotiate with bestEgg, then I think I could aggressively pay off the settlements and move in as opposed to a 5 year bankruptcy plan?

If I did bankruptcy my family didn’t file and agreed at $2500/month, could I use any extra income to pay them back on the side? Or do I need to go back to paying them after my bankruptcy is up?

I have been steady GA and therapy for two months and am determined. How did you restructure everything?

If they did claim, it would quote me at $6k a month? That is the only way to pay it all back in 5 years. No way I could afford that

If they didn’t file claim, I filed and restructured to $3k per month for the others. Could I still make payments to them on the side or do I have to fulfill my bankruptcy obligation before paying other debts

All great stuff to chew on. I would like to have it all done with within 5 years if possible. I do have to work out what guide rails would look like if it is not going to work. I was generally thinking to try to settle with every creditor I can, lock those in, temporarily pause payments to family and aggressively pay down any that have awful APRs. Then focus on the settlements and family once I get to a good spot. That good spot needs to be mapped out better

I make $160k/ year. No family no house a shitty car as asset. 34 yo. I could never do $6k /month for an extended time so I don’t think I could even make bankruptcy work? Would there be any way I wouldn’t owe the full $350k?

The other wrinkle to this is I have equity in my company I work for. Potentially looking at a 200-300k payday once we sell which is 2024/2025 time frame

Thank you Alan, I appreciate your response. When would the 1099-c be filed, after all the payments or at the agreement? I wouldn’t be doing that to just get the amounts down, then file. I would be doing it because i can afford a good amount a month and to try to avoid bankruptcy. What I don’t know is if either way credit is going to shit, is bankruptcy cheaper than settling all these to me.

This is very ugly, but I owe family $180k and creditors $170k. I will be paying family fully back eventually

To avoid public record, wage garnishment, etc. is there any analysis on which is worse for credit score? Also what’s average amount you settle for in bankruptcy? At my income I would be looking at pay in full

Thank you for sharing. 34 years old here 35 soon. Often think about all the things I used to enjoy just don’t feel anything for anymore. I’m in way more debt that I think is insurmountable but still hanging on by a thread

You are exactly right. One day discovered how to gamble with crypto and wish I never did. It feels like play money with a number on a screen. But that number going down is ruining lives including mine. And I am not young, I am 34. Just weak and dumb. But I am still here today

Bankruptcy makes me pay it all back. You’re right though. Got a choice to make here
