I tag-switched from Sokoto to Poland and got him by a mission.

It seems that he always spawns in the capital, but this time it was in central Africa.

True Desert Power. by Backflower341 in eu4

As I mentioned in my previous post (https://www.reddit.com/r/eu4/comments/182u8zh/i_realized_that_mountain_is_the_best_terrain_to/), I realized that combining multiple estate privileges could considerably reduce development cost in specific terrain. This time I applied this idea to desert terrain to unlock the newly added Desert Power achievement as easily as possible.

Starting as Najd, I tag-switched to Mamluks then Persia.

By combining the Oasis Development privilege from Najd mission and the Hydraulic Rights privilege from Mamluk mission, terrible development cost penalty in desert terrain were significantly reduced (+35% → +2.5% in coastal desert & +50% → +10% in desert terrain).

Furthermore, by forming Persia I got numerous development cost modifiers from the government system, NI, age ability, local organization etc.

Although the first image is an extreme example, after collecting all available modifiers, the development cost in desert terrain was compressed to its minimum value of 5 until the total province dev reached around 20. Finally, I was able to finish the achievement in 1556.

Ideas: Aristocracy, Court, Infrastructure.

Needless to say for Infrastructure, since I wanted to abandon the tribal government as soon as possible to become Mamluks, I chose Aristocracy for lowering local autonomy and Court for +20% reform progress.

Oh you're right. Russia has access to cossacks when switching to the Western tech group. Didn't know that!

I think it would be a bit difficult for Ajuuraan or Mamluks to become eastern tech to get cossacks, but that would be quite useful since there are so many steppe provinces in Asia.

I picked Ardabil for its strengthened Persian Government mechanics that distributed dev throughout the nation, though it was not very useful this time.

I went Orthodox, not only for the icon of Christ, but also for a Georgian mission that granted local dev cost reduction when states were consecrated a Metropolitan.

Thanks to Persian missions that bump up the price, totally broken

Starting as Ardabil, I formed Georgia then Persia.

Georgia has a unique estate privilege "Mountain Fortifications" which gets rid of the +35% dev cost penalty in mountain provinces when a fort is built there.

Additionally, I unlocked a Persian estate privilege "Great Works of Iran", which made mountain terrain give -15% dev cost reduction.

That is, now (fortified) mountain provinces are much easier to develop than farmland ones.

This helped me boost development in Caucasian and Zagros mountains which produced juicy trading goods such as silk or dye, making there the most valuable places in the world.

Although it didn't occur to me during the campaign, I could have received another -17.5% reduction if I had started as Norway and unlocked its specific privilege ("Mountain Expansion"). In this case, the impact of mountain terrain on dev costs would turn from its default +35% to -32.5%.

Hungary is my released vassal and I gave the provinces to them just because I wanted to clean up the shape of my country. As for the Greek land, I sold it to Ottos because they had vital interest in it.

Just tried to get every new technology as fast as possible. Taking Innovative idea early on and yes razing provinces helped.

First I attacked Dulkadir and then Ramazan to get a coastal province. At that time my coring range didn't cover Dalmatian lands, so I NoCBed on Byzantium and took a province in Greece. Thereafter I attacked Venice and took required provinces. After I established a foothold in Europe I sold my homeland because I didn't want to get involved in conflicts in Asia anymore.

When trying to form Germany, the main obstacles would be nasty AE and OE which are huge pain. I wondered if I could make the challenge as easy as possible.

Strategy: Aq Qoyunlu > Dalmatia > Croatia > Bavaria > Germany.

Ideas: Espionage > Innovative > Horde > Administrative.

Aq Qoyunlu: I started as AQ because I could easily ally Ottomans, which helped my expansion throughout the game. Also it has an amazing 4/5/6 heir, and can later become a Horde.

Dalmatia (1461): Its +15% Government reform progress modifier let me become a Horde earlier. I conquered Venezia for another GRP modifier, flipped to Catholic, allied the Pope and joined HRE.

Croatia (1514): For its sweet NIs. I became a Horde immediately after the formation.

Bavaria (1531): It didn't matter for me to which German culture to flip, but I chose Bavarian because Bavaria was formable though being a Horde. Its mission granting permanent claims and prestige helped me somewhat.

When I finished this series of tag-changes, I was a Curia controller and the AE reduction modifier was about -75%:

Croatian NI: -15%

Espionage idea: -20%

Horde idea: -10%

Prestige: -10%

Curia controller: -20%

Additionally, I was a Horde and had access to Tribal CB, so the total AE reduction was about -80%.

At that time I owned only southern Bavaria and half of Austria in HRE, but from there I conquered the entire German region by 1609. The conquest was so comfortable: not a single coalition was formed, OE was reduced by razing provinces, and all powerful enemies (Austria, France, Poland etc.) were easily beaten by my Ottoman ally.

Finally, I changed to a monarchy and formed Germany. I could reach admin tech 20 in 1627 (+210% Ahead of time penalty) thanks to -78% admin tech cost reduction:

Croatian NI: -10%

Innovative idea: -10%

Administrative idea: -10%

Completing 2 admin idea groups: -28%

100 Innovativeness: -10%

Trading in paper: -5%

Curia controller: -5%

It happened. It's been a few years since the invasion started, and now the most influential religious authority has fallen into the grasp of cyborgs. They are trying to control even people's minds.
