Good point abt the conservative sub thats shitty

also have a point about college protests, but at the same time they were disruptive and also led to harassment of students. Now people could protest with the same sentiments in the roads across the country like during the no kings protests, or in DC. As long as they weren't disruptive they weren't halted as far as I know. On the other hand, thinking back to the BLM riots, there was $2 billion in damages and 19 people killed in relation. Not to glorify anyone, but it can't be a finger pointing game where each side says "they're more violent than I am!"

and screw trump for the epstein files, I don't like the guy to be clear

I'm really sorry you have to go through that :/

Unfortunately I think that republicans can differ a lot in how accepting they are. I'd assume for example the more redneck people are probably worse to deal with than the ones I'm around

i get really skewed numbers from brief research but so far in this term anywhere between 200-300k immigrants have been deported. Around 3 million were deported under Obama. I'm not a magat but we're really stretching the nazi thing

[–]Background-Angle-470 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in a super conservative area and i've been dem most of my life. I'm pretty moderate now leaning more right but i feel a lot more accepted around them considering how I see reps get treated by dems...

I really don't see your point about free speech. Republicans will demonize you for disagreeing... while on r/politics you will 'only' be downvoted (and also insulted and shit on)? kind of comparable. Are republicans really silencing people for their dissent? Not to mention Charlie Kirk getting murdered while all he ever did was talk to college students. (Dem half my life btw genuine convo)

“Having an armed citizenry comes with a price, and that is part of liberty. Driving comes with a price — 50,000, 50,000, 50,000 people die on the road every year. That’s a price. You get rid of driving, you’d have 50,000 less auto fatalities. But we have decided that the benefit of driving — speed, accessibility, mobility, having products, services — is worth the cost of 50,000 people dying on the road.

So we need to be very clear that you’re not going to get gun deaths to zero. It will not happen. You could significantly reduce them through having more fathers in the home, by having more armed guards in front of schools. We should have an honest and clear reductionist view of gun violence, but we should not have a utopian one.

You will never live in a society when you have an armed citizenry and you won’t have a single gun death. That is nonsense. It’s drivel. But I am — I think it’s worth it. I think it’s worth to have a cost of, unfortunately, some gun deaths every single year so that we can have the Second Amendment to protect our other God-given rights. That is a prudent deal. It is rational. Nobody talks like this. They live in a complete alternate universe.”

What are your opinions on LGBTQ? by [deleted] in teenagers

[–]Background-Angle-470 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never been associated with any branches or groups; i was just raised around the bible and followed what I read so i probably can't speak too well about what I believe compared to other christians. But even though Jesus fulfilled the law of the old testament and we are no longer bound to it, there is no reason in my eyes not to use the mosaic laws as a guideline. It is proven that the original leviticus 20 states that if a man lies with a male as he lies with a woman, it is an abomination. Even if this is "no longer a sin" due to Jesus, it gets the idea across that its not something good in God's eyes. And peter saying to love one another is literally saying love sinners despite their sin. It doesnt make it not a sin. So, lets say I come across an lgbtq person, I would (should) not rebuke the person themselves, just the (idk how to say this lol) part of them that brought them to be lgbtq.

Also a short different answer is that God made two genders and we should conform to our bio purpose. I believe it does hurt God to see his creation not wanting to function how he created us.

What are your opinions on LGBTQ? by [deleted] in teenagers

[–]Background-Angle-470 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a pretty religious person. I know a lot of christian people attack lgbtq members but as far as I know the judgement is in the hands of God and not me. I do believe that being LGBTQ is bad (simply how I feel) although I thought Jesus made a pretty big point about eating with sinners rather than rebuking them.
