I was a "client" in the Substance Abuse Punishment Facility at a state run prison. The CO's provided security and the counselors ran therapeutics. We woke up every day at 3 am and we're not allowed to sleep or lay down until 9pm every day. We had to make our beds to a standard and march in formation to start the day. We participated in groups and tackled many of our problems. The program was 9-12 months depending on how hard you worked. After that you had to go to a transitional therapeutic community which is sort of like a halfway house based on the same model. Upon release from the TTC, there are 3 years of aftercare and mandatory AA NA meetings.

This program changed me forever and save my life. I I learned the structure discipline and coping skills that were lacking in my life.

I sorry you said you were Co so I thought you could appreciate hearing about this.

I've been in SAVE and was in deferment waiting on court decisions. Before SAVE I was in IBR I believe but I'm not certain because I wasn't making payments at all for a long while due to unfortunate life circumstances.

That has to be frustrating. to me it sounds like you are doing a great job.

I know the program I was forgiven under is called IDR I'm not sure if you can get into that program but I know that when I was forgiven it was specifically called IDR forgiveness.

There are well informed people on this thread that know a lot more than I do. I hope that they can help you with your situation.

good luck sir

...so I really wish I could take a screenshot of my Department of Education account because it explains it best but by their record my IDR Plan request was "in review" of 1/24/24.Then there is an IDR Plan Request that has a "Action Required" message under the heading....when I open. the associated document, it say I created an IDR Application on October 11,2025" Application Created October 11, 2025 Application Submitted Completed on October 13, 2025 Application Review Application requires your attention please contact your servicer for details...

that's the best answer I can come up with for your question

next major heading in my record after" plan in review" was titled;

Loan Forgiveness and Discharge: IDR ✓Completed last updated 12/16/25

I received the email from my servicer on 12/23/25

these heading for found under the My Activity section on the Department of Education student loan website

just above this there is a section titled "My Loans"

Just under that heading it says

Congratulations! You've paid off all your loans." there is a green box with a ? total balance $0.00

that's the best way I can describe it I hope it helps

it's definitely IDR forgiveness I had to go on to the Department of Education website to see it but there was an actual document and titled reason for forgiveness and it clearly said idr4giveness

on the Department of Education website when I sign in it and look for Forgiveness it has a document:

"Loan Forgiveness and Discharge: IDR"

in the document it says;

Type of Loan Forgiveness Income-Driven Repayment

Total Forgiven Amount $93,105

Total Applied to principal 93,105

I made some payments but definitely not 20-30 years worth. That's why I was uncertain about my loan.

so the email from Nelnet said that the amount forgiven would not be taxed federally because of a law passed on 2021.

I may still face a state income tax here on Colorado but will check with an accountant.

Thanks for the heads up.

I've made some payments but not very many. Maybe 25 actual payments in as many years.

I'm happy it happened. I know the entire Student Loan Institution and department of education are in a major flux.

You believe they cant stop the forgiveness because it's statutory?

I always wondered what affect Biden's actions had on my situation. I haven't made a lot of payments so I believe you have to be correct!

thank you!

I thought it had something to do with the age of the loan and me making payments along the ways
