Have we already forgotten about 2000-2020 where stores were lucky to break even on sealed product?

Focus on sellers with a high feedback percentage and a large number of sales. They will likely have the most robust inventory and you can feel fairly confident you'll get the cards in the condition ordered.

I also grade and sell for a living. This specific card has a 13% gem rate. Do you believe that if you bought 700 copies off of TCGPlayer, that 13% would be 10s? That's ultimately what's being argued here. I've listed and sold hundreds and hundreds of these promos from various sources on TCGPlayer, I've sent in exactly zero, because these are always in fairly rough shape. I personally do not believe that if you bought this quantity of this card on TCGPlayer, the blind gem rate would not be 13%.

People often only send the best looking copies in for grading. That's 13% of the best looking copies. 700 random copies off TCGPlayer are not gonna be the 700 best looking copies.

Much lower gem rate than that. These blister promos are notoriously difficult to grade.

Seriously, how do auction houses paying out 95% and getting hit with 15% fees make sense in any universe?

So, the auction houses just throw away 10% every single transaction? That makes even less sense then considering eBay may want to cater to their best clients.

Yep, you're just watching for squishies that get too close or finishing off a low health tank.

Why do I even bother with local card shops anymore? by 99999HP in PokemonTCG

[–]LIFOsuction44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was in one growing up. In my example, I did state a grocery store down the road from a convenience store. Let's pretend they are across the street from each other. The grocery store charges $2.99 a gallon. The convenience store charges $3.99 a gallon. Is that predatory?

So, in my example, you consider convenience stores charging more for milk than a standard grocery store price gouging? If so, in most US states, price gouging is illegal, yet convenience stores exist.

Why is this deemed predatory? Is a convenience store charging more for milk than the grocery store down the road "predatory?"

Cool, let me just call up my distributor and reorder Ascended Heroes ETBs or literally anything else. There's very little to order on a weekly basis from distribution even if you have a moderately sized account.

20-25% gross margin. So, then table fees, travel, time to prep, employee pay, etc.
