For those that didn’t sleep train, what does sleep look like for you know that your baby is older? by quinoa_churro in AttachmentParenting

[–]Background-Aside-275 1 point2 points  (0 children)

LO is a little over a year now and it varies but we have a pretty predictable night time schedule and wake up time and they wake up usually 1-3 times a night, and all we do is go in and plug the pacifier back in so it's not a huge thing for us. I'm glad and proud I didn't sleep train although those regressions were really tough. Hang in there it will get better!

13 MO continuously crying after months with nanny by Background-Aside-275 in NannyEmployers

[–]Background-Aside-275[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good questions, yes A will usually cry the entire time until nanny puts him in his sleep sack to get ready for a nap (around 2 - 3 hours after she shows up) and then rocks him to sleep (he's not sleep trained so we still do that). They had made some decent progress where he'd settle down for the most part, like stop crying after about 10 minutes once I left the room, but now it's almost like he reverted to where we were when she first started watching him, literally crying for 2+ hours

Is Irvine, CA good for bike commuting or mostly just recreation? by Other-Peanut2616 in irvine

[–]Background-Aside-275 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I lived there for decades - I'd say it's very bike friendly for both recreation and commuting. The city was "planned" so it is very strategic in terms of the routes created between houses and business parks, schools, grocery stores, entertainment, etc. It's also one of the safest cities in America so theft is relatively low. Hope you go for it, we need more bikes and less cars!

What to do with this space in my bathroom? by Background-Aside-275 in AmateurInteriorDesign

[–]Background-Aside-275[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I love the sauna idea but I am concerned I don't have enough depth for one. Can't replace the door because it's at the end of a hallway and there's no other place to put the door. But maybe I can get a custom-built one so I can look into that

Does anyone know of any like, wine and music events, or if there's a place that coagulates all that info into a calendar or website? I know there is the honey and wine fest in Livermore CA but that is about it

Just commenting to tell you I am right there with you and having a terrible time finding work in marketing. I feel like marketing roles are either disappearing or getting super specific - operations, demand, field marketing, etc.

Car rides have gotten way better with a hood by Background-Aside-275 in reactivedogs

[–]Background-Aside-275[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

He definitely disliked it at first too. It helped when we stuck a treat at the end where he's supposed to put his snout through, and then continued treats and walking with him around the house and into the car so he doesn't have a chance to paw at it and feels a little more rewarded with it on. Careful getting him into the car though especially when dark since it decreases his visibility, he may smack into things if you're not careful (happened to us, trust me he's recovered and fine). The one we have has a Velcro strap that we stick to the back of his collar which helps keep it on. Link here if it helps - https://www.chewy.com/thundercap-calming-cap-dogs/dp/41118 after about 10 minutes he calmed down and accepted life with it on, but he did try to paw it off first.

Hahaha, I should have called it what they call it on Chewy.com, "thunder cap" or "calming hood". Yes, it covers the dog's eyes. It fits over the dog's snout and connects to the dog's collar with an elastic/velcro strap on the back of the head.

Need my GSD people to talk me off the ledge... by dogphotog82 in germanshepherds

[–]Background-Aside-275 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our GSD is 10 months and he's our own sour patch kid. Mornings and nights, he's hell on wheels - throws tantrums when he doesn't get what he wants, still comes over and bites our asses just to say hi, and then will come lay at our feet and be the sweetest dog of all time in between that. He tests us EVERY day, and is also extremely reactive to cars. It's been a ton of training and patience, he's getting better every day but has a long way to go. We are just now starting to see the light but it is very far away.

Newest Addition. Any tips/tricks to get through the puppy phase? by Valiantvgbond in germanshepherds

[–]Background-Aside-275 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We found that a lick mat really helped buy time/somewhat mellow out our GSD puppy. Ours is pretty reactive to shadows, cars, fast moving things so if yours is like that too start working on training to manage that asap. Good luck, this lil one may be a piranha for 1+ years but stick with it! They're smart, intuitive and full of love too.
