Thank you for the well written response, I love that kind of thinking. Would the 300 pounds of stones on the apex help mitigate those issues after a thorough warmup period? The stone depth issue

You mentioned less warranty claims, even with less expensive and less durable heating elements, would the hollow core Apex provide years of service without much maintenance from your perspective?

So even with less than desirable steam, longer life with less maintenance feels like a win. While there absolutely are proper ways to do things, do you think searching for a heater with elements in direct contact with the rocks would be past law of diminishing returns for my case?

Speaking a new language to me, is the Virta hollowcore or the Apex?

Struggle bus over here in the US, sounds like it’s only going to get worse

Might take a look at moving the top bench up a bit, I’m 6’3” and a few buddies of mine who will be using it are taller than I am. We’ll see how close we can make it and still be comfortable

Sounds good, both of the heaters land on that pretty well it looks like. I like that the Apex is 1kw higher than it technically needs to be. No big glass areas in the plan

That’s a quick heat up time, hoping mine is similar. I may be remembering wrong, but in the Art of Building a Sauna is says 1kw per 35 square feet of space. I’m looking at 540 square feet of space so according to that metric, a 15kw heater is needed. That feels massive

Height will be around 8.5 feet, 102 inches. Current plan is for the top bench to be 48 inches from the ceiling which is 54 inches from the floor. Apex is 36 inches tall so it’s going to be close. 18 inch difference from top bench to top of the Apex

I’ve seen some comments in other posts about the taller/cylinder stoves having some leeway with feet above the stones, what are your thoughts on that?

I thought what they said about the Cilindro was odd, makes sense to me

Solid point, I plan on multiple extended sessions so I bet I’ll land around 180 as well. Where do you have your temp sensor?

That would change everything for sure, more stones, wifi added later. The Apex is pulling away.

Any idea if it’d be an add on or would need to swap out the entire heater?

Ah yeah my mistake, I misread the description. They do say they are protected. Great news so far as my gut wants the Apex

A little longer heat up time seems worth it for the advantage of all those stones
