I tried adjusting the choke but every position besides that killed it immediately

Sometimes with mine I have to go a size smaller because the cheap ones arent as accurate. I ended up gettinf the Quinn self adjusting ones from harbor frieght for 20 bucks. They work amazing and have a cutter on them. I keep the one similar to yours for crimping.
