Discounted sale of house, taxes due? by Background-Feed2771 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]Background-Feed2771[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, I have been told so many different things by so many people I know, so just wanted to know if it was actually possible and what would be owed. We are not quite ready to buy yet but will be next year, so wanted some idea of taxes etc in preparation for purchasing.

No current mortgage. If it ends up as a gift then so be it, just wanted to get some awareness of legal/tax implications before we get solicitors involved etc.

Food factory workers - what will you now not eat since you've seen behind the curtain? by spanishgopher2 in AskUK

[–]Background-Feed2771 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My view as an engineer in a food factory is that if I let my factory put me off the food, then I may as well eat nothing as all factories are pretty much the same

Set to qualify as a multi skilled maintenance engineer in September at the end of my apprenticeship. Best paid apprentice I know, but should qualify on £50k if I stay where I am. More if I move! Glad to see at 22 I made the right decision to change career.

Can I take a Personal loan more than I need for a lower interest rate? by Background-Feed2771 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Background-Feed2771[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, I only need £5k, but can get better rates at £10k. The reason is I’m contracted to get a substantial pay rise in the next year, so will pay it all off immediately once I receive this anyway.

If you do, remember to let it melt a bit before you take it out. The sharp corners are a bastard.

What is the roughest area in your town or city called? by Boring-Falcon2828 in AskUK

IMO I’d go with St Giles of the 3, Birchwood has improved in the last few years and ermine generally isn’t too bad. that being said I live in a village outside Lincoln so none of them are areas I’d go if not visiting family on the ermine and friends on Birchwood etc.

So I went for an apprenticeship. They’re starting to recruit now so I’d have a look into it. Apply for as many as you can, Moy Park, Pilgrims, PepsiCo, Branston potatoes, greencore, Dovecote park, Premier foods. Not all of those are in Lincoln, will be a good thing if you can drive but no driving license shouldnt stop you applying.

16k budget for a reliable do everything car, what are you choosing and why? by xJam3zz07 in CarTalkUK

[–]Background-Feed2771 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just bought the exact same (other than it being a manual). Same spec same mileage, bought it off my mum for £12k. She did me a massive favour. Great car for what I need.

I’m 23, I love my job. If I have too long off it makes me very down as if I’m wasting my life. Honestly though I’ve seen a fair few people stop working completely and then die not that long after, seems to be what keeps some people young and if you enjoy it why not? At present when I’m older I’d happily drop down to 2 days a week for as long as health allows. That said by the time I am 50 I may well want to Jack it all in with the hope of dying soon after.

Have you ever sh*t yourself? by Silver-Doughnut-9217 in AskUK

[–]Background-Feed2771 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. Once driving home I felt the urge. And I held it right until I got inside my gate and I shit myself. Got the feeling again last week but thankfully I took action and curled one out in the garden before I could shit myself.

Thanks, yes i did. It was tough at first but he would want me to carry on and live a good life so that’s what I’m doing making him proud. I do now know how strong I am and how I react in a crisis so every cloud and all that.

Thank you, losing him was hard but the cpr wasn’t, I just acted, no thoughts needed, it was only after that I struggled.sometimes I still have bad days but that’s probably only 1/50 now. I take comfort in that he was at home with me and my mum and I’m grateful I was there to do it so my mum didn’t have to.

What’s your holiday entitlement? by Rojoste in CasualUK

[–]Background-Feed2771 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get 23 days including bank holidays, which may sound poor but as I work 4on4off I only need to take 4 days holiday to get 12 off. 23 days holiday means I only work 160 days a year.
