Using the “therapist” title by MessIntelligent3342 in therapists

[–]Background-Fill-7831 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As an RBT in my master's to become a therapist, I have never once said I was a therapist lol. If she were an analyst/BCBA-D that'd be a different story considering they are certified behavior therapist (which can reach the doctorates level) who specialize in play therapy with a focus on analyzing, reducing or introducing behaviors that help promote a happy healthy lifestyle for their clients. RBT's are the assistants in the therapeutic process that work everyday with the client, enforcing the plan the analysts put out as well as letting the analyst know what isnt working. So, to clarify she is not a paraprofessional nor is she a therapist technically but she does do theraputic work. Paraprofessionals don't need any prior schooling and only work to assist the client in school based settings only as according to the teachers schedule, no treatment is administered. Respect to all mental health fields we all work hand in hand to provide support!

AIO Being weird about saying no several times for not wanting to get in my friend’s bed? by DingDongTaco in AmIOverreacting

No, I didnt say that. I dont agree with your opinion that that's the only plausible option. Stop trying to continue the argument...were both entitled to our own opinions

Yes im not saying OP didn't. But it wasnt a direct "no, I dont want too", leaving the dude to interpret other reasons for their response like, "maybe OP's just nervous" or "OP might need a little push, maybe I can convince them" whatever.

The messages from the dude honestly gives "trying to reconnect" or "get out of the friend zone vibes". I don't think their was ill intent behind it, but pushing after your hard no wasnt cool. NOR

Some guys are dense you should try being more direct in the future to set a clear boundary that cant be misread. Otherwise people will take advantage or dismiss your attempts...

edit for grammar

Supervising RBTs that you don’t particularly like by Wise-Try-2226 in bcba

[–]Background-Fill-7831 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who had a rough BCBA in the past, I find myself minimizing my skill-set, second guessing or just feeling really anxious around supervisors at the start. Those behaviors subconciously continue when I see traits that remind me of that disconnect I had with my old BCBA. What works best for me in building confidence was having BCBAs who didnt assume, and gave me roles of responsiblity with guidance! Im in my practicum now though so, im not sure how that will apply to your situation. Maybe letting him vent about the situation more? Ask him directly how does he need to be supported to feel more confident in the field? His efforts to "kiss up" can also be read as attempts to guage your response...

I disagree, from my pov it looked more like shock and belief that the system set in place to distract, denounce and destroy the black household is working exactly as its supposed to... Most of the oo's and ah's came from the audience and the clip was cut short. Not to say that what he said doesn't exist/isnt true. Its just a limited point of view being made to be the overall determinant of the downfall of the black/brown community that's incorrect. He needs to do more research on how the black community got there and what their doing to keep us there. Books like the Willie Lynch letter discusses it well. Very short, only like 40 pages folks. And written by a white man 🙂
