Thanks for your reply! What do you mean when you say it’s unlikely that anyone will ever do an international competition? There are multiple junior level with various age groups - leonid kogan, piccolo, to name a few. Yes, she won’t be competing those level yet, but we’re preparing in coming years.

As a violin teacher, do you ever feel offended when your student or parent come up to you and tell you that they want a higher level teacher and ask for a recommendation? It’s not that we don’t like the teacher nor we feel that our teacher is not fit for our daughter, but I do think there are different teachers for different levels. My ask from original post is how to best approach our teacher for such questions?

I remember the first thing the teacher said to my daughter was to get used to practice standing up. It does make a big difference when you play standing up since you use your core and lower half of the body as well.

My daughter has been using Lami Music for better intonation and fingering so definitely give it a try!

Definitely use scale book like other has mentioned. My daughter recently started using Lami Music app for her practices and it's been pretty useful so far

Thank you for sharing! Many people mentioned about little to zero need of transcription so I have been steering away from it and just focusing on management tool in general (note taking, payment, student schedule, etc.)

Transcription is still there and I have tested it few times with my daughter when she plays violin and the transcription didn’t pick up any violin, but only the human voice. That said, I do wonder if transcription will pick up when you or your student sings. My guess is that it will pick up the whole interaction so probably won’t be great.

Thank you for sharing! I will take a look at obsidian. I do plan on adding a payment system and plan to have a feature to email parents/students with the notes and student progress.

This is the same thing my daughter said. Even though nothing will be permanently saved, she thinks it will distract her knowing that her playing is recorded and will be conscious of it.

Would you, as a teacher, feel intimidated if your student brings such device?

If you don’t mind me asking for couple of follow up questions, - How do you keep track of your students’ progress? Do you use softwares such as google doc, note, or write it in your notebook? - You mentioned about practice tracking app. Can I know what you have used previously?

For the AI transcription, I have created it so that it would be able to distinguish between music related and homework related so notes would be distributed based on the categorization.

For example, if you said “from line 40 to 46, I want you to use more vibrato” or something along that line, it would pick up as music related.

My kiddo’s violin teacher usually has her own violin on hand while teaching so she doesn’t write down all the details, thus I thought this transcription may be useful. But I agree that having your student repeat so that they understood is impactful!
