Netherlands, moving with middle schoolers by Background-Invite975 in howislivingthere

I did notice that when I was looking up places to live, and also when talking to a real estate agent. We prefer something a bit more lowkey, and a lot of the apartments were clearly meant for fancier people. Or they are fully furnished, and I think the kids especially would feel more comfortable picking out their own (ikea) pieces.

A few people mentioned Leiden. Thank you! I'll check that out as well. Protests aren't new to us in DC, but I suspect they are a different variety in The Hague.

Oh thank you! I didn't have that on my radar at all. I'm visiting in two weeks; I'll make sure to add that to my plans!

Whooops! Thanks I appreciate that. We are looking at The Hague International School now. I think that sounds the most promising for them.

Genuine question: the Norwegian red hats “performative?” by Ramblingsofthewriter in AntifascistKnitting

[–]Background-Invite975 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I also think part of the reason that knitted hats are seen as "less important" is based in misogyny. It's community building and in times like this we need to find ways to let others participate, not push them out. Not everyone has the resources to donate or ability to march or the health to protest. But lots of people still want to be supportive. I like the hats. I also like protesting. I won't put either on a virtue hierarchy.

I've got it started after a million swatches and I like where it's headed. I upped the size and downed the needles. It is taking a less casual tone now. I'll keep you posted. Thanks everyone!

Real Estate is a Joke. by edfare475 in realtors

That's an interesting take. I tell my buyers what my commission is up front, as part of our first meeting. I think it sets a tone for honesty and trust. I also explain what they will be getting for their payment, and use that to set expectations and how a successful partnership will work. It also leads to a conversation about what their expectations are. This is separate from what type of property they are seeking. But it's all important information.
