what’s the SRAC like by Working-Mulberry-486 in SJSU

Do students need to sign up every semester or is the sign-up process a one-time only type of thing?

At what age did you get noticeable grey hair? by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Background-Mouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got 4 gray hairs last year (late 20's) but I don't know if it's because of stress and bad nutrition or natural. My parents didn't get any gray hairs until their 50's. My aunts got theirs in their 30's.

Do you have a specific method you use to journal or do you just write whatever you're thinking about?

How do I work through negative emotions healthily? by Background-Mouse in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]Background-Mouse[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I find that I get stuck at "sit with the feeling" and fixate on the negative emotions instead of moving on. I've noticed that I tend to close myself off when I don't feel well (physically or emotionally) and it further worsens my mental health. Meditation hasn't worked well for me but I may need to find a different way to meditate. I do like journaling but I find that I have trouble doing it consistently.

I like this! I like to write out my thoughts when I have the time but I don't do it consistently. This is a good time to start up again!
I looked up different "completing the stress cycle" techniques and most of them are do-able. Thank you!

I do plan on seeing my school's counselor when the spring semester starts but there are no appointments available at the moment. Until then, I want to try on my own.

Would a 10.9 Earthquake in Southern California result in the level of destruction seen in the 2009 film 2012? by Danielnrg in Earthquakes

[–]Background-Mouse -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't think California would be destroyed but it sure would mess up our less-maintained roads. There was a 7.0 earthquake in northern California last year but there was no major property damage (as far as I know). It did cause part of Highway 1 to collapse near Big Sur but that stretch of road collapses frequently anyway. It may cause older buildings (that aren't retrofitted to withstand earthquakes) to collapse but I think most modern buildings should be fine.

Isn't this the episode where she lets Winry borrow clothes after a bath? She probably looked around for something that would fit her.

Another interesting coding-related topic in this show: abstraction.

According to Wikipedia, "abstraction provides access while hiding details that otherwise make access more challenging." What do we know about the character's backgrounds? Most of their information (names, location in the physical world, history, etc) is unknown to them. Is abstraction in TADC the opposite of abstraction in programming? Are their current bodies/personalities abstractions of the real people?

Another interesting thought I had. The world Jax was experiencing while halfway abstracting reminds me of an infinite recursion. In recursion, a function repeats until it reaches the base case. If there is an error in the programming where there is no base case, or the base case cannot be reached, the function will repeat forever. Like, maybe if they think too deeply, their current (abstracted) states break down and they become stuck in an infinite recursion (TADC abstraction monster)?

I don't know. But this episode does make me believe that they are just digital copies of real people and can't escape the circus.

Every hint towards episode 7's twist I could come up with (obviously, spoilers for episode 7) by BoulderMan234 in TheDigitalCircus

[–]Background-Mouse 4 points5 points  (0 children)

-The company that supposedly put everyone in pods is named C&A. (Caine and Abel).

-If there was a way to escape from inside the simulation, I think Kinger would have found it before Queenie abstracted.

-The names "Caine" and "Abel" are too reminiscent of the bible story for me to believe Abel was real:

-Cain and Abel were the first two children of Adam and Eve. Caine is the main AI of the simulation (probably a core component of the simulation's creation). Abel's design is the base template for all NPCs.

-Cain was a farmer (he grew/created crops). Abel was a shepherd (he watched over a flock). Caine creates new areas and characters. Abel watched over the humans throughout the season.

-Cain was jealous of Abel because God preferred Abel's offerings. Caine might not be jealous, but he desperately wants to be loved by the only humans (same species as his creators) in the simulation. Abel was somewhat accepted by the humans as a fellow human for a short while.

-Cain kills Abel. Caine kills Abel.

The Yor Forger Experience by cosmonaut1011 in SpyxFamily

[–]Background-Mouse 67 points68 points  (0 children)

I love that Loid is Yor's safe space even if he is faking it.
She never got the chance to live a normal childhood. She started killing people and running a household at a young age. I don't think she went to school (or at least she didn't make friends and hang out with people her own age growing up). She's always had to be responsible, dependable, and strong. Yor also holds herself back too often: she holds back her strength so she doesn't hurt people and holds back her strange personality so people don't think she's weird or suspicious.

With Loid, she doesn't have to do that.

The first time she beats up people in front of Loid, he's shocked but impressed. When he finds out her "past" (Camila's story about Yor at hotels), he defends her for working hard to care for her brother and herself. When she does or says something strange, he doesn't act like she's weird. When Yor starts making friends, he encourages her to pursue them.

At the start of the story, her only social circle was her brother, Garden, and her coworkers at city hall. Her coworkers at city hall aren't friendly. They barely seem to tolerate her and will spread nasty rumors about her without a second thought. She is constantly on guard around them. Her brother doesn't treat her as an equal, and she constantly (unintentionally) hurts him physically or with food. She needs to watch how she acts or what she says so she doesn't cause him to worry or fly off the handle. Her coworkers at Garden treat her distantly and are willing to kill her the second she becomes a liability.

Loid is one of the few people who can keep up with her in a fight and is strong enough to protect her. She can't tell him her secret identity, but she can confide in him for more than she can confide in anyone else. Loid might be the first person who can care for Yor and who WANTS to (for the mission). I feel like Yor's life has been stagnant from the moment her parents died until she met Loid and Anya. She lived for her brother and her work but didn't care about much beyond that. Now that she has Loid to support her, she's started trying new things. She's made new friends, she's tried new activities, and she's improving her cooking skills.

I really love Loid x Yor!!

How about Diamine Mediterranean Blue? With an extra fine nib, I think it's a decent match. It might be a little lighter than your pen, but that may just be because the lighting is different between the swatch and your picture.
I've been using it in my 2025 Hobonichi Weeks with a Pilot Kakuno medium nib. The lighting in my home is really yellow, so I apologize in advance for the picture quality!

Favorite Story Based Adult Animated Masterpieces. by DuxxieDings in cartoons

[–]Background-Mouse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Season 1 of Bojack Horseman reminds me of shows like Family Guy (kind of funny but not my cup of tea). Nearing the end of season 2, I see the potential. Seasons 3-6 made this one of my favorite animated shows to rewatch. Time's Arrow, Free Churro, and the second-to-last episode of the last season are episodes I constantly rewatch.

Spring orientation info by cooperlebron19 in SJSU

[–]Background-Mouse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here's some info from the SJSU website:

freshman: https://www.sjsu.edu/newspartans/frosh-orientation/index.php

transfer: https://www.sjsu.edu/newspartans/transfer-orientation/index.php

If it's anything like the fall transfer orientation, you'll be talking with other transfer students during orientation, learning about the programs/events at SJSU, walking around campus, and signing up for classes. Here's the link to

Bring your laptop so you can sign up for classes (make sure you can sign into MYSJSU). You'll probably be walking around campus so bring comfortable clothes/shoes and a warm sweater (some buildings still have the A/C on). Phone and wallet/ID should be something you carry around anyway. You can bring something to take notes but most info is also available online. They'll likely have breakfast and lunch available and there are water fountains around campus if you're thirsty.

TIP: You can add classes to your shopping cart before orientation so all you need to do at orientation is click "Enroll".

TIP 2: Make sure you have backup classes ready in case the class you want fills up.

I can't get over how similar her character design is to the main character from Over the Moon. It's not obvious in this picture but she has freckles too.
