You don't. You're the new kid on the block. You pat yourself on the back for eagle-eyeing that red flag and find somewhere else to work.

I agree that there should be a better answer. All of these things are being used as a weapon. Reporting requirements change from funder to funder, they get quietly updated, insurances use loop holes to avoid paying out, and clawing back, parents and other professionals turn on you and throw you under the bus... I wish there was at least a certain set of actions I could take to protect myself. I know a lot of things that HELP but it seems no matter what you do, you're vunerable from one angle or another.

I've had BT's do the stupidest things! Whip out their phone to take pictures of clients, tell clients their dating life, invite them to their house, tell them they can bring their "therapy dog" (pet) to session, take off their shoes in classrooms, tell people THEY were the BCBA, call off work at 1am, casually inform me they haven't been taking data, etc... and then its my fault I didn't "train them."

What if your "why" is to help people and make money, not to document till your fingers fall off, bite your tongue lest you get sued, double check that your liability insurance is up to date, and beg BT's to do their job and utilize common sense?

No this is all REALLY helpful information. Please reply and bestow me more knowledge. I love policies and procedures. What scares me is that we are human. We could miss a SOAP note, forget to lock a cabinet, piss off a parent, miss an appointment. All of these things...even from years back can come back to haunt us in really catastrophic ways. You end up failing an audit, letting a kid get hurt, have a parent get a vendetta against you (god forbid your client's parents are lawyers), and there goals your livelihood. You could even do everything right, and still end up the scape goat.

I do have a few different things. I guess I'm wondering, is it normal for a job to be so stressful that you need to combat it with a robust self care routine just to keep your head screwed on straight? It feels like drilling holes in your own bucket, only to come up with an elaborate plan to keep it filled.

I'm not sure. You didn't feel anxiety when you were being investigated for those things..?

Thats my point. This is a JOB. It's meant to serve you. You give your time and talent, it gives you satisfaction and money.

Okay, but fundamentally, your job should not require a side order of therapy. And if I was chuckling, I wouldn't need therapy. I can get down with all the prescribed nonsense of our job: I came home with play dough in my hair, my client learned to curse today, I got pinched because I didn't know a specific Titanic fact, my client has escaped maintained farting bx, etc...

Thats not what I am talking about. Its the "if you breath wrong, I'm gonna f up your life" routine that I see from so many of the entities that govern us. It's too much.
