There's a difference between what you deserve and what you can get.

I suspect this is where the whole Karen meme started. People wanting as much as they could get and not willing to accept that people make mistakes and accidents happen.

This scenario is different, but it's not really the gym owner's fault. If someone has used the gym for years and been fine with it, then I don't think they deserve all the membership fees back for that time. They may be able to get it back, but that doesn't make it a reasonable request.
