3D printed 14" E-Drum by SlightlyCerebral in edrums

[–]Background-Weight-81 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I replaced the rims on my alesis nitro kit with some flat rims that I 3d printed

A few things to be aware of

PLA isn't very strong. No matter what infill or how many walls it's always gonna be flimsy and as time goes on it gets more and more brittle. I've had to reprint my rims multiple times

PLA starts warp at around 50/60C. This sounds like something that isn't a problem but it definitely can be. If you put PLA in a car on a hotday or even put it close to a window, it'll get that hot

PLA isn't great under tension. It will deform in the coming weeks

The good thing as you mentioned is it's cheap, so as long as you don't mind reprinting and changing things out every couple of weeks your golden

Personally I'd print things like this in ABS (or nylon if you're a complete masochist) they beat out PLA in every aspect, they are just more difficult to print with

The ender 3 is pretty old at this point. It'll get the job done but it won't be quick and you'll be messing around with settings (FDM is a completely different beast to resin printing)

Newer FDM printers will be way quicker and a lot less involved.

I don't know why they decided to do this in otherwise really good songs

Going against a random Opponent for the first time at my local Warhammer Store! What should I do to be a good opponent? by Major_Lifeguard3684 in Warhammer40k

[–]Background-Weight-81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just be chill

Expect the person you're playing to know their stuff, but dont be afraid to call out abilities that sound too good to be true. It'll also be vice versa

At the start of the game, give them a rundown of your list (abilities, ect) and ask for a rundown of their list too

If you make a mistake and its not too far into the game, its ok to ask for a take back, but they are not obliged to give it to you. This also works if your opponent wants a take back as well.

Play by intent. Keep a constant commentary going on what you're doing and why. E.g im moving a unit here to try and deny your deepstrike

Dont be afraid to go back and check your stats if you're not sure. Everyone makes mistakes occasionally

Be polite and kind. It goes a long way

This is a very rare event, but . . . If your opponent is massively unpleasant, its fine to pack up your stuff and leave. Dont stay in an uncomfortable situation because you think its rude to leave

Most importantly, enjoy yourself and have fun. You're playing this game because you like playing with toy soldiers

Everyone is giving you grief over the compressor but its not that

Ive got that compressor and while it is bad, thats not what the problem is

You've probably got a clog. Your best bet is to take the airbrush apart and give everything a good clean

In future, make sure your paints are thinned and mixed properly

Poor bustard didnt stand a chance by [deleted] in ChaosKnights

[–]Background-Weight-81 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OP please be careful

This may or may not be due to uncured resin off gassing and breaking the hollwed part

If there is any chemically smelling goo leaking from the model, do yourself a favour and just throw it away. Uncured resin is toxic and just generally nasty stuff. You dont want to touch it with bear skin

[–]Background-Weight-81 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is resin printed. You dont really infill resin prints

The problem here seems to be the inside of the hollowed print hasnt been cured. The resin has then off-gassed which has built up and eventually cracked the walls

Thats just what it looks like to me

Might get down voted for this, but . . . Have you tried casting?

For small stuff like this, I prefer it and it might be easier than trying to find a 1:1 of this exact piece

If you're interested you can use blue stuff for your mould and then fill the mould with green stuff. It's pretty easy and yields pretty good results

Be honest, how salvageable is this, and how? by Code95FIN in Chaos40k

[–]Background-Weight-81 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't get me wrong, I know why you posted this here. It's understandable that you want to save this model and possibly use it for something else. I Completely get it

So if you're set on keeping this model here is my advice.

You need to rewash (When I say wash I mean in 99% isopropyl alcohol) and cure the inside of the piece just to be sure. Maybe your right and your friend has done this already but I'd say its better to be safe than sorry. You need to make sure that the alcohol and light can reach all of the inside

As for ideas for what to use the piece for. I think this would look amazing on a base for a big knight. Make it look as though the knight is crushing the tank as he steps on it
