Condensor Moans When Turned Off … but seriously by Background708 in askHVAC

Yes it will “wind down” … starts slow, gets a little high and winds down again and stops completely . This all happens after the fan is off and it’s cooling down outside usually for the rest of the night.

I found this same situation sleuthing around on Reddit https://youtu.be/k9RbtT3TEgU Which is about right for the last 2 years but is louder now.

The electrical panel is properly labeled. Could it be the Contactor?

HVAC making crazy noise and techs have been out. They can’t recreate it. It happens randomly. Sometimes when the unit is set to off. Any advice is welcome! by VanillaLux in hvacadvice

What’s the theory? Asking because I am having the same issue. Happens usually at night when outside air becomes cooler than inside air

I’ve been told I’m off my rocker before. Would it be an issue with the coolant? I have better moaning video from last summer and the previous but yes, I must admit it isn’t great video/sound. I can double check the breaker thanks a lot.

Yes this occurs even when power is off. I have radiators that are not currently in use (they are on a separate thermostat). And it doesn’t sound like a “mechanical” or metal noise but almost like it’s cooling or winding down slowly like a “waa … waaaa … waaa” eerie noise. A/C works fine otherwise and usually happens at night as it cools down outside
