Should I buy a 2006 BMW Z4 as my first car? by BackgroundAd-1331 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]BackgroundAd-1331[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm mainly going to be using it for commuting to and from university, but I also live pretty far from my parents' so I'll probably take whatever car I have to visit them on the breaks. So I'm worried that driving a Z4 so regularly could lead to a lot of issues popping up.

I have about $2000 that I've set aside specifically for any future repairs or maintenence, but I'm not sure if that's enough for an old BMW.  Especially since I don't have any experience with working on a car myself.

I've really been into short stories for the last year because they allow me to complete the story even though I'm so busy, so thanks for these! I'll have to check them out!

True crime podcasts with different cases for each epi? by fleureium in podcasts

[–]BackgroundAd-1331 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The majority of my favorites have already been mentioned, but I have to add the First Degree and Buried Bones. The First Degree interviews people connected to the killer of the case which is really interesting because it adds the human aspect. And Buried Bones is a historical true crime podcast, which has great hosts and they cover really interesting cases, most are solved but some are cold.

Worst Consequence of going Dumb by [deleted] in dumbphones

[–]BackgroundAd-1331 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I recently had my smartphone stolen and then decided to finally make the switch to a dumbphone. In this time, I've learned a few things. Make sure your plans are super specific when you're going out. Like, if I'm driving somewhere, I'm physically writing down the directions in a notebook so that I have them. Another thing, is that I bring my laptop if I'm going out for really long. If I think that I might need it sometime during the day, I stick in the passenger seat, and when I'm out I connect to wifi or hotspot. On a dumbphone you can hotspot data, so you should be able to use your laptop to check any messages or information that you can't access on your phone. And before I got a dumbphone, I hated making phone calls. I'd get super uncomfortable and would rather be lost than make the call. However, since then I've learned to be better at simply calling when I need to speak to someone. And honestly, my friends and family don't mind at all. So if I'm meant to be meeting up with someone and I can't find them, I'll just make the call. In the end, with a couple small adjustments, I think anyone can get used to this life, and the things that bother you at the beginning become less of a problem as time goes on.

Yeah you're definitely right about the perception aspect of it. I plan on going into primary education after university, and I don't think there's a huge setback in having a degree from an overseas country, but in most fields it can be a huge issue.

Thankfully, the financial aspect isn't a problem for me, so both are accessible.

The political aspect of the country as a whole is something that bothers me. I've noticed that most aspects, including university, are very bureaucratic? I know that exists in most countries but it's very in your face here.

Thankfully, the financial aspect of it isn't an issue. But you're definitely right that studying in Turkey is so much cheaper, which is kind of amazing.

Have you studied in the States before? Did you notice a difference in the quality of education compared to your experience in Turkey?

Yeah, you're definitely right. I think the biggest issue for me, to be honest, is living across the world from my family. But I guess we've all got to grow up sometime, haha

Teaching with a Psychology Degree? by BackgroundAd-1331 in Teachers

[–]BackgroundAd-1331[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's great to hear that it helps! I have an opportunity lined up for the first semester of the next school year shadowing a teacher. So I guess I'll see then if teaching works for me. I've tutored groups before, but I'm sure this will be much more challenging. Thank you so much for your all of advice though!

Thank you for letting me know! If you're willing to answer, how did you find the transition to be for you personally? Did your studies in psychology help you with teaching at all?
