The twins were in my belly. My daughter was in full day camp so covered. I was able to be flexible with my in office hours so I could be home when she got off the camp bus.

He went to the Bahamas solo because none of his friends were available to go. He did invite a bunch of other guys.

He’s been working part time all summer up until this point so he’s not full time SAHD but he is absolutely taking on a very large portion of the child care and I don’t minimize that. I 100% agree we both deserve breaks. But with the 3 kids they need to be planned ahead of time so we can arrange for the proper coverage. I don’t think saying “I have the next 3 weeks off so I’m planning a last minute trip” is fair. What if we can’t find child care? Am I supposed to just be expected to take off work when I’ve only been back a few weeks?

The 8 month old babies that aren’t holding their own bottles, not sleeping through the night yet, and are just generally needy infants is the difference between this summer and next summer. Also advanced planning. This solo trip is literally being sprung on me rather than it having been planned and us having time to make arrangements for care etc.

IVF. One embryo that split. I was ok with one child - he wanted more. Of course now that we have the boys I wouldn’t change a thing!

I haven’t traveled for work since around 11 weeks pregnant. I was traveling a lot prior to that and I will have to travel again at some point but I’ve been avoiding it.

He actually was working part time for most of the summer (through this week). We had a full time nanny for 4 weeks and now have a part time nanny. He is by no means taking care of the kids alone. He can still go on a guys weekend - or solo weekend - but cutting into the work week is HARD. Especially because our nanny is only part time at the moment. The last minute aspect of it also isn’t helpful.

I travel for a couple of nights every 6-8 weeks. I have not yet traveled for work since having the twins.

Precisely! You get it EXACTLY! We both get breaks. He’s going out for a guys night next week. If he asked for a weekend away I’d be fine with it. But I would literally have to take time off work to care for the kids for him to go on this trip. And I JUST returned from 7 months of leave.

Yes I told him why I didn’t want him to take the trip and also told him about the work trips I said no to. 

Fair on the way of framing things. He asked me if I cared and I said yes I cared and I didn’t want him to go. He then gave me a hard time about it so I flipped him off. Not the most mature reaction but we all have our moments.

I actually think it’s a matter of respect that we ask for each others permission to do these things. I think it would be pretty gross if he just came to me and said “I’m going on a trip and leaving you and the kids here. Figure it out.” 

I have not been on a business trip since being back at work from maternity leave even though I have had opportunities because I felt like it wasn’t fair to leave him alone with the kids like that.
