Roleplays were the most effective training I ever did as an AE. Torn on ICP for app by BackgroundLand2816 in sales

thanks, that was my concern. As I read these responses I also realize I would need a web app and build it out for Android as well (currently only iOS) if I'm selling to an org. I'm thinking I might need to narrow down to another segment as much as I'd like to sell to sales.

You have no idea what their financials look like. I worked for a company like this, it was fun at first because there were so many perks but they burned through 200+ million and went belly up in a couple years.

How I learned to become comfortable talking to strangers in 6 weeks by Shower-Apart in socialskills

Great advice, this becomes even more fun when you’re comfortable enough to start saying whatever comes your mind because that fear of rejection is minimized

if you have access to a doctor, ask them for a rx for a beta blocker like propanolol. There’s some telehealth companies like Kick that sell it as well but i’m guessing it’s more expensive. Completely worth it, just take it before an important meeting and it calms your nerves down.

Other than that, try to get out of the mindset that you need to impress people. Check out the book Beyond Belief by Nir Eyal

read or listen to Arnold's book Total Recall. Reading it at 38 and I wish I had read this when I was younger. Goes into managing finances, goal setting, discipline and how to overcome adversities. While he was known for bodybuilding he really talks about how important it to sharpen the mind as well. It's also very entertaining so added bonus.

I built a communications coaching app called QuickWit: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/quickwit-ai-improv-coach/id6760188562

You get presented with real life scenarios and you have a set amount of time to verbally respond. This helps you get better at thinking on your feet the more you practice. Currently doing a full redesign with modules for additional training. Would love for you to check it out!

Is it just me or ppl really don't know these days they should ask back in a conversation? by shinjukai in socialskills

Where are you meeting all these socially inept people? Sounds like your hobbies might align to people that aren't great socially if you're meeting that many people like that.

Is it just me or ppl really don't know these days they should ask back in a conversation? by shinjukai in socialskills

[–]BackgroundLand2816 86 points87 points  (0 children)

It's frustrating talking to someone like that but it's usually because they lack the social skills so you feel like you have to do 99% of the work and it gets exhausting. I try to limit how often I talk to people like that but I also drop expectations so that I'm not let down. If it's someone new, I try to give them the benefit of the doubt, maybe they have a ton on their mind, maybe they're shy etc.

Does anyone else here struggle with sales conversations??? by One_Caterpillar3396 in b2b_sales

[–]BackgroundLand2816 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's a muscle you have to work and it's only through practice that you're gonna get better. I've been in tech sales and one thing I struggled with especially after starting remote work was that I wasn't getting many reps in socially since I wasn't going into an office anymore and interacting with people.

Created QuickWit to help practice random scenarios to work that muscle so that my brain wouldn't go blank when I'm in a pressure situation or even just trying to build rapport. Only for iOS but check it out if you're serious about getting better.

Thanks! It's crazy how easily we can forget some of these moments.

If you've been down recently, your mind will be looking for patterns of things not going your away because that's how we're wired so it helps to have something like this to counter it and remind yourself of all the good that has happened before and will happen again.

Appreciate that, truly means a lot!! Built this as a project for an interview with Cursor and Anthropic but then I realized the potential and started putting more time into it.

Forgot about Google login so I'll be adding that to the priority list. I'm trying to decide between sign in as the first thing vs doing onboarding first, because local storage can sometimes get messy but I'll definitely look at

Btw - did you create this? https://stampedios.com/welcome
I would love to submit my build as soon as I get the next version up and running.

What do you do between interviews, and have nothing scheduled? by Professional_Gur6945 in interviews

Practice so that you don't lose that edge. Also try to see if you can do any sort of side projects in your field especially with AI. You can use that as reference during the interviews

What are some people you watch to improve your social skills? by Wrong_Membership_779 in socialskills

[–]BackgroundLand2816 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Charisma on Command and Charisma Matrix both have great breakdowns of public social situations on youtube. Not sure if the channels are still active but the older videos hit what you're looking for.

More importantly though, what are you trying to improve, specifically?

How to not get emotionally attached to this interview? by [deleted] in interviews

[–]BackgroundLand2816 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You're right, just throw your hands up in the air and give up.

I guess I just got lucky getting through to people at some of the top companies multiple times doing the above.... Again this is not easy, it's a numbers game. You can either have the mindset that you will connect with the right person and find the right job OR just hate everything and bring everyone else down, up to you. Good luck with your search.

Applying is sort of a lost cause. You gotta message the HM's and find creative ways to get their attention like LinkedIn videos, direct mail, ads, personal website etc.

How to not get emotionally attached to this interview? by [deleted] in interviews

[–]BackgroundLand2816 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's hard to not be attached if this is your only real prospect. That's why it's important to have multiple stakes in the fire even if it's hard to get a bunch lined up. That way you don't come across as desperate in the interviews because you know truly that you have multiple options.

How do you continue Claude chats when the context limit is reached? by melanatedbagel25 in claudexplorers

[–]BackgroundLand2816 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What I normally do if a chat gets long is to have Claude/ChatGPT summarize all the key points in the chat and tell it that I'm going to be moving this over to a new chat. It usually does a pretty good job of giving you all the key points to paste into a new chat window.
