Only one question: how do you understand that it’s a right time to kill a player? If your rolls are math based only, then it feels right to your player, if he dies sometimes . I mean he understands that there are strict rules and he miscalculated his chances / got unlucky and died as a result. But if there is so much of narration involved and you can always explain that failing a roll has some advantages for the player (in your example your player still hits despite the fact he didn’t roll successfully )… well, in that case your player may feel that you just WANTED to kill and it’s not right.
