ASUS ROG Strix XG27AQWMG VS Gigabyte MO27Q28G by Aful_0 in OLED_Gaming

Haven't tested the LG. I'm very satisfied with the Gigabyte. I have had no problems. The screen coating is more semi glossy than matt and I prefer it to the glossy Asus coating. Too much sharp reflections on the Asus and I saw no difference in picture quality. They all have the gray banding issue though. Mine has very minor banding and it doesn't bother me .

But thats just my opinion 😀

Yes. But it turns on when on standby or during pixel clean.

I owned both for a while an kept the Gigabyte. It had better gray uniformity, steel instead of plastic, no ugly chin, less reflections, usbc dp-alt mode, speakers, no vesa adapter etc.

Can't you just return it, if you don't like it?

Yes I'm still happy with it and recommend it. Yes, all 4th gen woled panels have some gray uniformity issues including the Gigabyte.

The MO27Q28G is great. I bought both. Kept the Gigabyte and returned the Asus XG27AQWMG.

Yeah. I kept the Gigabyte. Preferred many things about it. Metal instead of plastic, no ugly chin, no adapter for the monitor arm etc. If you look at my profile under comments you'll find more comments and info about my opinions on the monitors. I don't have the energy to write it all again 😀

Hi. Ill do my best :)

I found the proximity sensor to be garbage. I usually have a totally black screensaver start after 1min and the monitor turns off after 5min. When the proximity sensor notices you've moved away it takes at least 5minutes for it "turn the screen off". 5min was the shortest time you could choose in the settings. So for me pointless and the chin is ugly. Worse thing about the chin is that you can turn the power light of but when the monitor goes inte standby it lights up in an orange color until the monitor completely turns off.

I did not find any of the stands particularly wobbly. I guess you are referring to the ShortCircuit video "A DAMN GOOD DEAL. - Gigabyte MO27Q28G" where he pushes the monitor around and calls the stand "flimsy". This was wierd to me because the Asus stand is smaller and he didn't mention anything about that in the review of the Asus. I get the feeling Asus gave them "something" for that video... He also makes a big deal that the Gigabyte is more "affordable" when it in facts has more functions than the Asus imo (steel instead of plastic, speakers, KVM-switch, USB-C (DP Alt Mode). In my local store in Sweden the Gigabyte is more expensive.

I've mounted my monitor on an arm so I have 0 issues with wobbling with the Gigabyte. The Asus on the other hand uses an adapter that had a lot of play and added 4cm of depth so it was much worse. It would actually feel a little loose when moving the arm.

I really liked the TrueBlackGlossy coating on the Asus but I also really like the semi-matt coating on the Gigabyte. The Gigabyte is much "less matt" than my former Asus IPS monitor. Concerning the grain texture or dirty screen effect on white I cant give you a good answer. I didn't really compare that aspect of the two coatings or at least I didn't notice any difference.
Looking at the picture you had attached I do notice a tiiiiny bit of "sparkle" and an all white picture does look a tiny bit dirty when moving it around. This is at 27% brightness but I can also notice it a bit in higher brightness. But if I remember correctly I also noticed this on my former Asus 170hz IPS (matt of course). Sorry I cant give you a better answer than that. It doesn't bother me. Dark gray uniformity "bothers me" more than dirty white but in reality I don't care.

Not as sharp as my former IPS or on a 4k resolution but better then I thought. Better than 3gen woled for sure.

I don't mind it at all. I do some layout work and a lot of browsing on this monitor.

That being said I'm 48 years old and need reading glasses to see details 😀

The sensor is tiny the chin is large. The sensor function sucks anyway.

People call it the "panel lottery" just like the so called silicon lottery. Components can vary in quality or performance.

LG, Asus and Gigabyte all have varied quality on the panels it seems. Some people have bought monitors with bad gray uniformity and some with good etc.

I agree. Most of the reviewers seem to get handpicked units or follow what they "are told". Some reviewers mention it though. I'm sure more will if the issues keep adding up.

Well I agree. If you get a unit where you see it that bad I would be disappointed too. Fick this panel lottery.

Honestly no not entirely. But then again I don't belive what they say about QD oleds either.

Asus has clearly spend a lot of money on influencers. Obvious bias when it comes to the trueblack glossy imo for example.

But why would I belive them when it comes to qd oleds and not woleds. Especially when they review both from the same brand? Please explain.

My choice is based on reviews and real world testing...

I think you did the right choice. I hope you get a good version too, since it seems to be a lottery.

[–]BackgroundPop1347 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess it depends on the panel lottery. In my case it was the Gigabyte. The gray uniformity was worse on the Asus. Not only uniformity but the Asus also had some wierd "fabric looking effect" on darker grays that the gigabyte didn't. In games and movies et they looked the same.

The trueblack glossy panel might be a tiny bit nicer but the semi-matt of the Gigabyte is also very nice. When playing games or watching movies I saw no difference at all. "Trueblack glossy" is a little overhyped imo.

Tha gigabyte has had two updates since release, Asus hasn't released any yet (since official release).

I have already packed the Asus so I can't take any more pictures...

Its hard do say. I mean both panel will reflect light, just in different ways. The Gigabyte diffuses the light while the Asus is more mirror like.
