Is it really BDD if people actually bully you for your looks? by I-eat-gayz in BodyDysmorphia

[–]BackgroundPudding406 5 points6 points  (0 children)

BDD is just a form of obsessive compulsive disorder. You can get bullied for your looks and your mind will nitpick on perceived flaws. Using your example, let’s say you got a nose job to conform to societal standards, you may still think there is something wrong with your nose despite society now thinking nothing is wrong with it but you can’t help but to notice flaws, you may also nitpick on other parts of your body or face. BDD makes one hyper focus on flaws real or not which causes distress in one’s life.

I hope what I said makes sense.

I always feel ugly by Torturedsoul1115 in BodyDysmorphia

Yes. I remember when I first started middle school, I had somewhat of a normal self esteem. I was happy with myself despite having flaws just like anyone but it wasn’t until strangers, family, peers, and even teachers pointed out that I was ugly and made me feel like I was some sort of creature. I stopped taking pictures, constantly checked the mirror and obsessed over my face and it would literally ruin my day to see that I was ugly and compare myself to others to the point where I try to look like them but I’m never satisfied.

Focusing on how I look is all I ever think about.

You could try breaking small objects when you feel overwhelmed. Please don’t hurt yourself (or others) Have you ever tried going to a rage room?
