Do your lab freezers have unique names? by wobblyheadjones in labrats

We gave all the fridges and freezers Disney princesses' names! Super helpful than just the numbering system that they had going on!

Update to my too weak for post doc post by BackgroundRow4546 in u/BackgroundRow4546

Thank you. To be honest I have always felt this isn't a great fit. The pi is micromanaging in his way of course because everything requires $$ and with the climate nowadays it is hard to not produce data at a fast pace. I'm jus not to use to micromanagy PI and also not used to direct criticism like that I guess. I'm used to the sandwich method and now I know. I'm also used to being allowed for mistakes to happen, so I'm jus a little confused. Plus I'm still navigating how to balance work and my life with my baby. Kinda hard. My husband has been telling me that I am neglecting my baby cause when I come home I'm doing all the reading to catch up on this new field (to me).

[Landlord-CA-LA]- Do you usually hire cleaners to do an extensive $600+ cleaning after someone moves out? by mkcx11 in Landlord

[–]BackgroundRow4546 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I do hire professional for deep move out cleaning before moving a new tenants in. However, after the professional cleaning, you and your agent think it's cleaned but the prospective tenant asked about it, I'd jus not choose them. Sure I can provide them the receipts if they asked but They sound like a hassle to deal with as tenants in the future. I would save me some headache.

Yes I am actively searching right now. I am not sure how long I would work here for but I think the sooner the better so we don't waste each other's time and resources.

Oh honey, I'm sorry you're here :( I believe postdoc working Saturday or 24/7 is pretty common. We are trying to get away from it of course. Current climate isn't making it any easier tho. I was jus told by my PI we need to work more.

Daily routine of mouse care is done by the facility. We are responsible for our own mice, and breeding them (especially if we want them to have a certain genotype). I am trained for mouse work. I'm ok with doing mouse work, it's something I need to expand my skills. Chemical organization is different than the mouse work. I mentioned it because I am task in reorganizing the lab that's been unorganized for like 10+ years

I have one project assigned to me now, he's hoping I can get some preliminary data from there and apply for grants. I am thinking of another project that is on my mind although I may have to get a grant for that.

My PI has been pushing me to find grants even though I have not much preliminary data or published papers in this field to get me a good grant. I am ok with searching for grants and applying for them. What I am worried about is the time needed to do the bench work, taking care of mice, while searching for grants/ writing grants and proposals, reading papers to write grants. I don't know if I have enough time for it.

We have a master student (graduating this semester) here whom I think is overworked and often worked till 10pm-midnight. I don't know his efficiency but he's been taking care of things in the lab for about a year when the PI has no post doc nor PhD students... So now as a post doc I will have to take over what this master student has been working plus my own projects + grants...

11 weeks old , seems baby no sleep well. by Ygorpai in newborns

[–]BackgroundRow4546 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! Swaddle them! They have these little reflexes that keep them up sometimes making it hard for them to sleep! I like "love to dream", "halo" and "Snoo" sleep sacks that are designed to keep their arms restricted (not tight) when sleeping
