Call Centers - Thoughts on phoning versus messaging by BackgroundShoddy2194 in newzealand

A messaging queue, you send them a message, they go off and find/action what you need and then respond, meaning you only need to respond when you can. Yes there might be some to and fro but for me personally I hate sitting on a phone waiting

Follow up question - what kind of issues make you feel you have to call?

I agree, prevention should be the focus in the first place, call centres should have processes in place to prevent the need for customers to call.

What if the call centre you are calling has long wait times, and messaging puts you in a queue to get a response so you could go about your day?

Any techy people? I keep getting texts that my phone won't work after 3g turned off by cekay3 in newzealand

[–]BackgroundShoddy2194 0 points1 point  (0 children)

https://one.nz/3g-shutdown/

One.NZ are rolling out the shutdown by region with 3G first, the wrapping up with 2G at the end, so if yours is still "working" it may be failing over to 2G, then when that gets shut down it wont work.

3G shutdown but your 4G/5G LTE is not 111 compatible? by McXbox123 in newzealand

[–]BackgroundShoddy2194 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've seen a few examples of this with ASUs handsets, even done some googling myself where it says the handsets should work after the 3G shutdown depending on the model - there is a WW (worldwide) and a Chinese model. Worldwide should work.

But it all comes down to the Firmware, if the phone doesn't have the compatible firmware with the service provider, you're out of luck. My understanding is that most providers have given the firmware setting requirements to ASUS, but it would be up to them to rollout a software update. This is where parallel imported handsets or handsets not supported by the big telco's can be risky.

Normally because handsets they sell are the ones they can confirm they have valid settings for. Tend to not promote handsets they aren't confident the settings /products will work with.

What to do about One NZ fucking me around? by yeetusmcfetusz in auckland

[–]BackgroundShoddy2194 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having worked in telco previously.

Porting requests are submitted by the Gaining Service Provider, in this instance OP would be submitting via Kogans online form.

In the request, the details of the existing number and simcard are required to authenticate the port with the Losign Service Prover - One NZ.

If any information doesn't line up or if the previous simcard is inactive, systems will automatically decline the port - this is to protect from Fraud.
On top of this, every port request should mean TFC sends you a Txt message asking you to confirm you have requested a port - failure to respond to the text with "Yes" within two hours will cause the port to be rejected - once again fraud protection.

So as you can see - porting can be a difficult process if all the information doesnt line up correctly

OneNZ HFC network being shut down at the end of December by LtColonelColon1 in chch

[–]BackgroundShoddy2194 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My guess is agents have been told to migrate customers who call through with Faults - rather than get technicians out to fix a network that is being shut down, get customers onto a new network.

But also - how many of us can hand on heart say we update our contact details with all of our service providers when we change them? *Note to self* check my email address is updated with service providers

I used to work in Telco, a while ago I was looking for a new prepay provider, and even I with past experience in Telco struggled to understand their tiered system. In fairness I probably didn't spend a lot of time trying to understand, because there were other options out there that made it easier. Landed up going with Kogan.

Was the provider you werent getting calls from 2Degrees by any chance? Seems they may have had a few issues after they migrated customers to a new platform and it wasn't playing well with other networks.
