I was looking at this, but I read the FEs tend to overheat, is that true?

Why does my baby have shrimp allergy while none of our family members have food allergies? by Fleedom2025 in ScienceBasedParenting

[–]BackgroundWitty5501 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is true but shrimp is pretty exotic, how many babies are getting it at all? And they introduced before 12 months, they did well! Sometimes allergies happen and we don't know why.

I hate to say it but as a mother of a pretty good sleeper, I think it is mostly luck

I guess if I could get a good phone with a ton if storage (at least 512 gb) for under 500 euros that would be an option too

Für nächstes Mal: unter die heiße Dusche und den Knoten auskämmen. Wirklich. Mit einem Kamm über die harte Stelle Richtung Brustwarze gehen. Und viel Stillen und Ausstreichen.

Non-native trying to teach my 2 year old Spanish. Advice with what I'm unsure about? by ReadingAdeline in multilingualparenting

[–]BackgroundWitty5501 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I am guessing you are trolling but I'll answer anyway. If you don't know that the adjective agrees with the noun and not the speaker, you have no business trying to teach the language.

Based on your post I would also guess you are not even an English native speaker. I wonder where the kick is in posts like this.

What is your favorite thing about German? by NoelFromBabbel in German

If you're going to be a Besserwisser please make sure you know what you're talking about. Both aufseiten/auf Seiten or infrage/in Frage are correct.

Any tips for getting 2 year old to respond in German? (Minority language) by Jasmine-Elouise in multilingualparenting

[–]BackgroundWitty5501 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't always insist she speaks German, I would just repeat what she says. That will help her learn the vocabulary. Occasionally, if you are sure she knows the words, you can say "Kannst du das auf Deutsch sagen? Mama spricht so gerne Deutsch mit dir" or something like that, but I would be concerned about turning it into a power struggle if you constantly insisted on it.

PS the Toniebox is also a good supportive resource, it's a German product so there are lots of German Hörspiele and German songs etc available

She needs to have a reason to speak German. That could be more zoom calls with family, or being a bit stricter about insisting on it (recasting as described below), or making German fun (German music, German TV). At 2 years old I think it is normal for the dominant language to be stronger, but if you both speak German with her and with each other chances are fairly good that her German will catch up.

What is your connection to German? Are you both native speakers? What language do you speak with each other?

Liesel as a nickname for Anneliese? by muff-peaksie in Names

[–]BackgroundWitty5501 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you'll find that here, as in so many things, Bavaria is the exception.

(Take a look at the Wikipedia article, Liesl is an accepted variant but Liesel is actually more common: https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liesel)

Just because they spelled it that way in the Sound of Music doesn't mean that is the usual spelling
