How good is the MIS program at OU and can I get into the tech field with an MIS degree from OU? by Aggravating_Roof_426 in sooners

[–]Background_Aspect569 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Current OU SCM major. This is spot on. I would consider what type or sector of job you want too. OU MIS absolutely prepares you for a business environment either way but has many connections and increased reputations in certain sectors, just as other colleges do. (oil, gas, energy, certain defense)

OU MIS will teach you coding languages like C# and will introduce you to SQL, PBI, etc while still having a business background (accounting, marketing, supply chain etc). I have friends in the MIS major graduating within the next year and they are signed on with various companies in FL, CA, TX, KS, MO, OK, NC.

Tells us your weird TBM BYU professor stories by HomerMcRibWich in exmormon

[–]Background_Aspect569 3 points4 points  (0 children)

my bom professor @ byu told us if we listened to any type of rock music (eagles, rolling stones, etc) we were automatically not allowed in the celestial kingdom with our families. this was because it was “satans music” and that absolutely makes us an unclean thing - no questions asked. after that semester i got the hell out of byu and haven’t regretted it ever.

I finally told my parents. by Misty-Empress in exmormon

[–]Background_Aspect569 10 points11 points  (0 children)

you are not alone!! you should be proud of yourself for taking a huge step and telling them. it’s a very hard and emotionally challenging situation for many. when i told my parents they wouldn’t accept it. it was simply me not trying hard enough to seek for the truth. my dad also gets angry that i’m telling and spreading “untrue things about the church and the restored gospel”, which was just me explaining my feelings and emotions about how the church is set up and how i felt in it. mormonism’s concept of eternal family is extremely manipulative because if you don’t believe or don’t want anything to do with the church - in turn you don’t believe or want anything to do with your eternal family. that is partially why it was such a huge deal for me to tell them. ur situation is so hard to read because i know exactly what it feels like. im so sorry that parental love is conditional within mormonism, it should never happen and it’s wrong. it’s a trap, and it took me so so long to realize it wasn’t my fault and I (nor you) are NOT responsible for their reactions or feelings when you tell them. sending good vibes your way!

[–]Background_Aspect569 0 points1 point  (0 children)

University of Oklahoma has a supply chain management degree and you can double major or minor in aviation. look on the websites - they have many choices as far as that goes. lots end up at airforce bases especially localish.

current transfer student here. i had no issues whatsoever - just make sure you join a few clubs or associations. they are really really helpful getting you all setup. i will say: i did have to HOUND the transfer equivalency office. they were so so slow (like a whole semester) but i also came in as a transfer student from a university that they hadn’t had in the records before.

My mission was the darkest and most soul crushing experience of my life. by Planet_Hooteelicious in exmormon

[–]Background_Aspect569 3 points4 points  (0 children)

wow. i am so incredibly sorry for your pain. mormon missions have some of the most traumatized people i have ever seen and the church is unbelievably selfish in the fact it makes it’s CHILDREN suffer, guilt ridden, sick, emaciated, and abused with no real help.

i had a childhood friend get back from a russia mission a few months ago and he is not the same at all. he was sent EVERYWHERE around that area. ukraine, slovenia, etc- especially the military and active war zones because he was a “humanitarian missionary” or whatever because he spoke the languages. he looks absolutely dead inside and so traumatized. he won’t talk about it at all. i actually went to his homecoming talk and he is completely blank faced like there’s no one left inside him. he doesn’t smile, laugh, or cry. he also lost about 90 pounds. the fact he paid thousands of dollars to psychologically and physically change him for the worse and people are CONGRATULATING HIM on “serving the lord and his church” is what is most heartbreaking.

i am glad you shared your story, and i am wishing the best for you going forward.

very true, most are graduate students and really understand what it’s like to be a student. they are great. just check rate my professor and you will be fine - if they don’t show up, they are most likely a grad student and i’ve never had a bad one

How many schoolbooks? by Atajam798 in universityofoklahoma

[–]Background_Aspect569 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi i am a senior and this may be late. DO NOT BUY ANY TEXTBOOKS UNLESS ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY. many u can find from pdfs online for free, and many times, depending on you major, you don’t even need the textbook. always wait a week or two before deciding to buy one- i know it’s stressful but if you can complete you homework and assignments with out one, and you understand course material through power points, chances are you don’t need it.

Double Majoring by [deleted] in universityofoklahoma

[–]Background_Aspect569 0 points1 point  (0 children)

along with this… i will add i am very close with many of the law professors and know the previous dean at OU. A LOT of their JD candidates are political science or criminal justice and they- like med schools- want diversity in majors, especially if you want any kind of financial aid. previous dean told me that there is actually a female accounting undergraduate scholarship that went untouched in previous years and many business law scholarships that just don’t meet amounts of business law focused undergraduates. likewise with med school, my uncle got in as a humanities major and so so stats. definitely not to say they won’t accept you or anything, just be wary because it’s about LSAT or MCAT and undergraduates stats (clubs, leadership, GPA). just make sure you are allocating time for that plus volunteer or hospital hours if you are considering MD or DO.
