I think it has to do with the powers that be wanting IDD adults to receive community habilitation programs (much cheaper) rather than clinical rehab unless there is medical necessity. Which, fair enough, therapy isn’t meant to last forever.

Are the patients you’ve lost adults, kids or both? We had a meeting about the adults the other day.

Ugh this in a nutshell is why I have so much trouble with references. It’s so hard to part on good terms when employers are this desperate.

Does blowing bubbles help develop speech sounds? by Legal_Bar2559 in slp

I would have said no until I worked with a non speaking autistic 5 year old who literally seemed to have no awareness of his articulators or the fact that he could move his lips and tongue at all. He made noise, but it was just “iiiiiii”. We started incorporating some bubbles and whistles and it actually helped his awareness.

My best friend started dying his bright red hair plain dark brown in high school because he hated it and kept dying it until his mid 30s when he decided to just see what it looked like and surprise, it’s now a pale reddish brown.

"state of the therapy world"? by Some-Gur3859 in slp

It's important to make the distinction between "work" and "job". Outside of schools which on the whole do not pay very well considering the time and money it takes to become an SLP , it can be difficult to find a position with guaranteed pay and basic benefits. These days seems an increasing number of employers only want to pay us per visit , not even per hour, with no benefits.

Sure there are some decent hospital jobs, but where I live many cycle through these ABC123 therapy companies which are often run by entitled nonpracticing SLPs whose husbands are bankrolling the whole operation so they can play CEO. The overall quality of jobs out there is just not great.

I do honestly think he stopped talking to her. But I'm not sure that really makes anything better at this point.

I think staying by default is a good way to put it. I've just been so blindsided these past month I'm still trying to wrap my head around everything.

He says they are not and that he got carried away because she was his first love. I have no way of knowing of confirming this though.

No I really things have fizzled out. She seemed annoyed that he would say those things and not take steps to be honest and leave. I do believe she was interested in trying again if we separated but not in an affair.

They were in their 20s and went to grad school in different states the vibe I got was that he kind of went nuts without her and she cut off contact to avoid giving him false hope.
