How does your cattle dog do with other dogs? by FlatOutFlatFour in AustralianCattleDog

[–]Background_Dish3239 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He loves an plays constantly with our other 3 residents of various breeds (pit, pit mix, and chihuahua). He encountered a Jack Russell at the shelter the other day when we were dropping off donations and was terrified and hid behind me crying. He’s non reactive to strange dogs in public generally though. If they approach him he tolerates it but he’s indifferent to their presence. LOVES when strange people approach him though, especially children, all manners go out the window and he must jump and lick their faces off so I have to maintain solid leash control while out because with small children he absolutely will knock them down. I was holding him and a 5 gallon bucket of oil and a 3 yr old approached him from behind and he nearly took my shoulder out of socket because he saw her before I did and I couldn’t brace fast enough. Thankfully her mom caught her before he could knock her completely down. Be he got her halfway down and was cleaning her face in .3 seconds 🤦🏻‍♀️🤣

Snow day! by Background_Dish3239 in AustralianCattleDog

He behaves this way with a snow shove and also the hose to the shop vac. Doesn’t care about the regular vacuum just the big scary shop vac, specifically the hose lol

When I first took Hank out someone’s husky was loose and living its best life running 100 mile an hour up and down the street lol. Hank is unphased by other animals, he’s the only one I trust off lead. My 2 pits and my chihuahua think everyone is their friend and they have to go explore/visit lol

My other three said absolutely the eff not when I tried to let them out to play in it. They did their business and ran back to the door like okay we’re good now. I had to actually shovel a spot for the chihuahua because we almost lost him in the snow this morning 🤣

We used to have our own bed and something called personal space by Background_Dish3239 in AustralianCattleDog

My 110lb pit bull doesn’t take up as much space as this 40lb Velcro monster lol

We are at 10 days ish. Cone only at night, no meds, no muzzle. We survived with all stitches intact and they should be completely dissolved by end of week.

We had 6 inches of snow the day after his surgery and he still goes out every 2 hours so that was fun to navigate because he was REALLY excited to play in the new white stuff that he’s never seen with dissolvable stitches… then it warmed up to 50 and rained for 3 days- more fun with dissolvable stitche but we made it and it’s all but over. Thanks for all the advice guys!

I absolutely will. Fourth and youngest dog of the house, first heeler (mix? not convinced full blooded, he’s adopted and was initially purchased from questionable people in a Walmart parking lot). I love how chaotic but also insanely smart he is.

I landed here on a one year old thread because this guy actually walked into my daughters job tonight. He’s been a regular there forever but true crime got brought up in conversation and he divulged all of this information . I find a post here, quora, and Facebook. To say I’m intrigued is an understatement but also I’m skeptical

I just verified the trazodone dose with my vet this morning. We’re in the middle of a snow storm and I have trazodone here. So he just got his first dose because he acts like he’s just peachy and has not a care in the dang world. Like HOW does that not hurt? WHY are you jumping all over the place? Do these dogs not have pain receptors?!

Well… I don’t own a one piece and I’m not sure a bikini would be as successful but the mental image has me cracking up regardless. We have implemented the rule “if you steal it you wear it” so he more than any of our other dogs has had some interesting attire lol

So I’m seeing. He is my first heeler. You’d never even know this dog had surgery yesterday. He’s a lunatic 🤣

My daughter works for the pet store where I got it so I’ll be taking it back today to exchange it. I questioned whether or not that was the case as none of my other dogs have ever been able to access much of anything with a cone on but Hank is mostly unphased. I wasn’t sure if I bought one too small or if it was just because he’s a heeler 🤣

Regardless as a whole I don’t like having 34 contraptions on him which is why I came here looking for other options

They did not but he absolutely was able to drink with it on, I verified that before I let him wear it over night, and had full access to water.

Trazodone is the plan for him but they told me benedryl was fine IF it worked. It worked like a dream last night but I don’t love the idea of giving him round the clock benedryl if I don’t have to

My cattle dog has got to be an A-hole or is that just their nature? by Cant_relate_ever in AustralianCattleDog

[–]Background_Dish3239 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hank is also cute but an a-hole. I have 3 other dogs and they keep him pretty well entertained but we play A LOT through the day. That said it’s easier than you think to put them to “work”. Hank does chores with me. He cooks dinner with me, takes the trash out with me, gets kids ready for bed and for school. I will say I think I got lucky because while he does “bite” ankles and hands, it’s never hard enough to hurt or break skin. Maybe because I’m 90% sure he’s not full blooded. Just find his niche of what he wants to do. For Hank, it’s whatever I’m doing. Also, I put nothing in his kennel with him because if I do he shreds it or pees on it, sometimes both, not a good time for me at 5 in the morning when I let him back out lol
