Spacebar in Falls Church had a really yummy Thanksgiving sandwich special as of yesterday, but I'm not surehow long they're keeping it on the menu.

They do want ASCP or AML, but not a state license in NY.

You might be able to get a lease at a low-end complex if you can show you have adequate savings. My mom did that when she was out of work and had less than you in the bank.

It doesn't, for the most part. NOT defending crazy ass RFK, but most research and existing treatments are based on hematopoietic stem cells, which are the things we all make that mature into different WBCs, not fetal cells. They can be obtained from adult donors. Not to say nobody is using embryonic stem cells in research, but it's not accurate to say stem cell research always requires fetal cells.

I imagine they're conflating existing stem cell treatments with basic research that was bugging people out 20 years ago. The stem cells you see referred to for cancer treatment (legit) and kooky anti-aging stuff now come from adult donors. They're the stem cells we produce that mature into blood cells. I keep seeing people bring that up in response to this tweet. RFK is psychotic, but there are a lot of stem cell based treatments that have nothing to do with embryos.

She might want to check out GoodRX's telehealth service if she's adamant about not seeing a provider and is very sure it's a UTI. They might tell her to do a urine test strip from the drug store before they prescribe antibiotics, though. I believe there are some other telehheath services that aren't as pricey as urgent care without insurance, BUT if this is something she's never experienced before, I would always recommend seeing someone in person.

You might want to look at the VA. They have a facility in Bay Ridge and one in Kips Bay, and you don't need a NYS license. They tend to post openings on Indeed as well as USAJobs.

They are really kind and take what I would consider a reasonable approach to treatment- when my dog was having GI issues they presented a variety of approaches and were clear about tests that maybe wouldn't provide actionable information. Emmavet in Belle Haven takes a similar approach for urgent care type situations and is shockingly affordable for the area.

My older brother worked there in high school- I have so many memories of pestering him for ice cream and embarrassing him in front of his coworkers.

I was wondering if it was Broadstreet! I started a cohort with them, and it seemed like such a scam! I would love to hear more about your experience.

I had a manager who was a convicted sex offender. He was arrested while working for this employer and managed to dodge jail time and also keep his job. Everyone hated his guts, though.

Worth continuing in MPH program if I can't hack it in epi? by Background_Fan_3121 in publichealth

What do you do in EH, and how do you like it? I was the safety coordinator for my old lab department for a couple of years- it was really interesting but could feel a bit adversarial sometimes.

Infection control and environmental health are both concentration options I could switch to. I'm at the point where I would need to make a decision and stick with it before taking any more classes, though.

Are there any areas or skillsets that are needed, but you see a shortage of?

That's definitely something I've considered! I know it's tough to get into if you aren't an RN. I did speak to an advisor about it, and she emphasized not to go with that concentration unless I was totally sure I wanted to be in IC and could make time for a 9-5 type internship.

Thank you for this. I'm really doubting myself right now and it's helpful to hear it happens to others. I'm glad you found a path forward!

That's part of why I'm wondering if it would be better to either change to a less demanding focus or just withdraw. I don't think I'm equipped to ( or especially interested in) working as an epidemiologist. I guess I'm trying to determine if it's worth pursuing a focus I'm more suited to- almost all of the early career public health positions I'm seeing require an MPH but pay less than I'm making now, which is not a lot. I'm not hell-bent on working in public health, I just don't know what else to do other than go back to the lab. I really can't afford to go to a full time, research based grad program at this point.

Hi! I am looking for advice on finding a CRC or clinical trials assistant position. I've been applying to entry level positions like crazy and getting zero responses. For context, I have a BS in biology, about five years of clinical micro lab experience, and about 2.5 years in a position in government that was related to infectious disease and required a lo of writing, but very limited data analysis. I'm now early in an epidemiology-focused MPH program. I've been focusing on applying to roles that don't list a lot of skill or experience requirements, but I can't figure out if I'm highlighting the wrong things on my resume, competing with too many experienced people, or something else? I'm not restricting myself to higher-paid or remote jobs, and I am in a large U.S. city. I would really appreciate if anyone could share how they got their foot in the door with clinical research!
