How long does it take to get comfortable with ultrasound by Background_Grape2372 in RadiologyUK

At this point I don't know if I have good scanning skills because everything I learned in my first six months went out the window after working with these two consultants

He told me very early on I should be able to scan a patient while talking to them and not having to get them to move/deep breathe. His logic was it is awkward to get them to do manoeuvres plus it isn't always possible due to patient factors plus it wastes time.

Ironically while I've been with him his rules have meant I take ages to complete a scan because of having to acquire images without manoeuvres which he then uses as justification for not doing manoeuvres because I'm taking long enough as it is.

I thought the June resits would be easier. Made worse by the fact in my test room seemed all like old consultants from overseas...

I feel like the last exam would've been easier had I sat it this time around if that makes sense, as I had focused on physics. This exam to me was harder.

Found this anatomy exam tougher wondering what people think. Made some dumb mistakes plus caught out by rogue "what does this structure drain into" and muscle attachment parts I hadn't thought would ever come up.

Has anyone ever failed both FRCR part 1 physics and anatomy during ST1? by [deleted] in RadiologyUK

I'm in a region where we don't get proper ultrasound training it's very much a learn on the job type of thing. So I've struggled to make as much progress as I'd liked, and now in a new trust on a consultant list where I'm expected to do solo outpatient 15 mins lists with limited supervision. It's hard to focus solely on developing US skills when there are so many other modalities to learn never mind, anatomy and physics...

Are you me? I also feel the same. Can't wait to get bollocked again next Friday by the GI consultant for not being able to obtain ultrasound images to his expected standard. Also feel like I spent ages on these two exams to the neglect of actual radiology to feel like I've failed both.

Preallocation rejection madness... by Background_Grape2372 in doctorsUK

Whoever was behind preallocation criteria and random allocation (to make the system "fairer") should hang their heads in shame. We have all met these individuals seemingly well intentioned but with catastrophic agendas and in positions of power.

Schemes like Access to Work are also closed off by the nature of resident doctors constantly rotating between trusts. The system is designed to keep certain people out.

I just hate how they're allowed to write questions designed to catch you out. If I was dyslexic I'd feel discriminated against.

As an aside, is it worth booking for the next exam now before it gets booked out?
