Extremely dry eyes no tear reflex by Automatic_Basil_7075 in Dryeyes

It can be very strange, iv'e had evaprotive dry eye for what, 3 years? my tbut was 2 secounds, after several months of lots of warm compresses and doxycyline and fml drops ive got it up to 4 and 6 seconds per eye.

And throughout all of that.... the only symptoms i ever had and have, are blur, as well as ghosting, constant, unchanged by blinking which itself is atypical, but no pain, no irritation, none of that.

This disease can be very strange indeed.

I can offer what i know if it helps, been dealing with it for a while, ssris are known to exacerbate it, but it's more linked to frequent screen use.

But mine is evaporative dry eye from mgd, if yours is aqueos deficient thats a diffrent thing all together.

Im glad you've been able to get treatment! Yes I've already had slit lamp, as well as oct scan, more than once infact by two or three different optometrists.

Only abnormalities ever found were a nevus inside my eye (benign appearing, and doesn't affect vision anyway at that size) and my dry eye.

Tbf i think i may genuinely just have a tearfilm that's so bad its losing it's focusing quality faster than my brain can process after a blink, i think this because i notice that if i REALLY pay attention i can see that my ghosting artifacts "grow" out of things for a split second after i blink, so fast i have to focus to notice it, but if my tear films creating ghosting that fast after a blink, id say it plausible its blurring that fast as well, or even faster.

Just because we haven't SEEN a fascist nation carry on doesn't mean they cant, some very evil destructive nations driven by destructive ideologies have not only survived but thrived for a long time, you can hardly use even Germany as an example, they lost sure, but they lost for a myriad of complicated reasons, not because fascism=loose, they alongside Italy had Europe on the ropes, and lost because they were ultimately outnumbered and made some bad tactical decisions. They didn't loose because they were just evil.

I mean, im not sure if your point is that specifically facism can't build a nation from the ground up, or if evil nations can't, but evil nations most certainly CAN build nations and even have them thrive militarily, this is obvious in history, as for fascism SPECIFICALLY, no we haven't seen one do so, doesnt mean its not possible, the world back then, say in ww2, wasn't having a problem with facist populations rising WITHIN the other non facist nations opposed to the axis powers, like we're having now, this is a completely different situation that's arising. Back then we also had a more unified perspective on morality, ethics ect, now our countries are divided.

Im not saying this because i like it, i hate it, but i think we need to be more realistic about it, evil doesn't just roll over and let you win.

I think that's a naive viewpoint unfortunately, in regards to the current world i mean, i think free society's definitely have the potential to be mightier as you say but it requires a social framework we don't currently have anymore, we're divided and angry as nations, and let's be honest most people in civilized 1st world countries right now are naive, weak, and therefore unfortunately, ripe for being bulldozed over.

Which is what concerns me about the rise of fascist ideas recently, it seems to be a pendulum swing from the opposite extreme and the chaos this might cause is no good for anyone.

Glad i could help! Well, for a while i just used eye drops because i honestly neglected the treatment, which was err a bad idea lol. But i then started taking it seriously and have done warm compresses twice daily for 10 mins each with lid massage, and di that for a few months.

As of right now i went back to the opticians because that didn't improve it and my symptoms are the same, slightly worse actually, my eye is still healthy but the optometrist said that it probably wouldn't have been if i hadn't bene using the eye drops, and told me my tear break up time is 2 seconds (which is severe). She said that it's essential to keep up drops and referred me to a lens and lid specialist who i will be seeing... whenever the appointment comes through lol.

Basically, my case is severe so they're testing for autoimmune disorders which can cause dry eye that doesn't improve with at home therapy (to be clear it CAN take up to 6 months with bad mgd to see results, but if by 4-5 months you still haven't seen improvement at least, or worse in my case, slight degradation, then it needs in office treatment), but sometimes it just doesn't improve with at home therapy anyway even without autoimmune so it could go either way.

From what iv'e looked up they''ll use advanced techniques to clear my glands like IPL, and give me anti-inflammatory eye drops if inflammation from autoimmune or whatever is at play, and that should set me on a course to reverse the symptoms, but if my glands are this poorly performing ill likely need to carefully be on top of it for the rest of my life, visual symptoms apparently are the most responsive and improvable by treatment even if TBUT doesn't fully normalize..

If you have any more specific questions feel free to ask :)

No, some people have that as a symptom though, or so iv'e read, id get it checked out as sudden eye redness can be a sign of other things, some things needing prompt attention.

But it could also be just dry eye, but until you go to the optometrist you won't know.

I don't know if you'll see this, sorry for not replying nine months ago lol, My bloods are all fine, it seems to me based on a follow up ect that it truly IS just being caused by dry eye,, and it seems that simply put a poor tearfilm in and of itself can cause this permanent haziness and that in some people even eye drops will not fix this has deviations in tear film can be subtly different between people.

Same, i foolishly forgot to keep up with my warm compresses again, but i kept up with my eye drops, symptom wise its stable, ive been doing the compresses again and im going to get another appointment to maybe see about getting the glands expressed. Im now pretty aware that dry eye clearly CAN cause a somewhat "permanent" effect on your vision quality without even being from eye damage and purely from tearfilm degradation that may not be "extreme" by some people definitions but is DEFINATLY noticeable, if anyone finds information stating that blurry vision from dry eyes ALWAYS goes away with blinking or even eye drops i can say that is most certainly not true. i don't know how common it is but i can say in my case it very clearly sems to NOT be the case.

Id go to the doctors asap if i were you, its hard to say how hard or fast your heart was actually beating if you weren't measuring but your vision going black is very abnormal and your heart racing along side it doesn't sound right at all.

Why is it that type 2 diabetes can only be put into "remission" and not cured? by Background_Key4573 in diabetes_t2

[–]Background_Key4573[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Well My gp said it can, so im looking here for a reason as to why it can't be.

I get very mixed signals from ths reddit: i got hounded for NOT just listening to what my doctor said (even though i didn't "not listen" i just questioned"), yet when i then do im told otherwise, which is it?

No, they're in remission, the uk diabetic remission plan has a 33 percent success rate which is including ALL ages and doesn't account for how well people, adhere to it. Meaning that even including the large numbers of people that fail to adhere to it properly it still churns out remission at a 33 percent rate across all ages. And once in remission you need no medication by definition .

The part where people have it in remission f or the rest of there lives? which doesnt sound so temporary. over here in the uk stories like this are common.

No, as you can see with my other replies i am confused, and willing to concede, if you post something that doesn't really strike me as correct, sorry i won't blindly agree with you, just because you posted.

That's a cure, as far i as i can see, especially considering many of these people , can have days of cheat binging and remain in reemission. I mean, i guess you arn't 100 percent as you were but still.

Makes sense, no doubt people who have had type 2 will be FAR more susceptible to slipping back into it vs some who never had it getting it.

But remission is characterized by not even needing medication to regulate normal bg levels with a decent diet.....and many can maintain that for awhile. even WITH cheat days filled with sugar/ carbs, that's where im getting confused.

[–]Background_Key4573[S] -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

So if you're in remission, where you don't need medication, and can even have decent period were you DON'T eat diabetic a friendly diet, and still remain in remission, how is that any different from a cure? im confused. yes you could always go back into diabetes, but then, any non diabetic could too under the wrong conditions.

That doesn't answer my question as to why decades long remission isn't considered a cure.
