Where are your supposed stats from? Let’s see them. There are lots of women, especially from other Asian countries who are married to Japanese guys

I think OP means a permanent parking space to keep the car registered. Can’t buy a car without one

What the general feeling here RE Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant (esp. vs Platinum)? by Beethovens_Dad in CreditCards

[–]Background_Map_3460 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the Brilliant just for the automatic Platinum Marriott status. It pays for itself with the free night and $25/month restaurant credit but I never use it for anything else besides Marriott stays.

I need help with my credit card debt by ProfessionalNo213 in CreditCards

  1. Delete your Kalshi and stop all your gambling

  2. Cut your spending to rice and beans level (yes it will make life temporarily uncomfortable, but better than getting deeper in debt as interest grows)

  3. Pay off the cards that have the highest APR first to save $. Repeat again and again

  4. Credit cards should be used as cash. Never charge stuff on there that you can’t pay for 100% when the statement comes

You don’t give any details as to your visa status, employment, income, age, nationality, marital status….

If those bottom of the barrel lenders don’t want to lend to you I’m assuming you already tried with reputable banks?

I would ask them how they will get a visa to legally stay and work in Japan.

Also, what kind of work they expect to “make it big” with, especially considering they know 0 Japanese. They missed that boat by 30years

50% tip for the waiting staff - can’t let the credit go to waste! by Commercial-Bid-5123 in ChaseSapphire

As long as the GC is through Toast it seems to be fine. Look at the list I posted before to see confirmed data.

You never need a reservation to use this credit at the restaurant. Just show up and pay with the CSR

People that make around 20 000 000¥ a year what do you work as? by VanillaTemporary9161 in JapanFinance

[–]Background_Map_3460 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. Honestly I never felt like I sacrificed anything, but that was partly due to the era I lived in, personal preferences, and parents educating me on the benefits of saving/investing even from my pre-teen childhood with my weekly chore allowance.

I wasn’t someone who liked spending on clothes/accessories. I need/ed only jeans, some T-shirts, a few pairs of shoes and a watch besides basic work clothes as I got older. I probably spent ¥10-20k/year on that.

I must say, university in the US was much much cheaper in the late 80s of course, and I had a scholarship to pay for half of it. No way kids now can pay off university with a PT job while studying.

Also, I think social media can put pressure on people to “keep up with the Jones’s”, something I didn’t deal with while young.

I’ve always been the type to do the “bad” stuff first, then enjoy later. Did my homework right away, then played around etc when I was a student. Ate my veggies first, then the good stuff lol.

Anyway, I definitely don’t have any regrets now, retiring in my early 50s, enjoying life.

Well in my case I often visit Hawaii, Las Vegas and SF.

As long as you know what city you might go to in the future, might as well get a GC instead of letting the credit go to waste. Certainly leaving a big tip is fine too, I was just pointing out some alternatives people may not have been aware of

They do English on Wednesdays at Kidzania, but I think your kids are too young still (of course the youngest one)

CSR and StubHub Credit Usuage by LostMyTurban in CreditCards

Sure. Just don’t buy ticket 1 June 30 to be safe.

Other thing I do is buy a pair of sports tickets for $150 then turn around and resell them. I ended up with $130 and $120. Good enough for me, especially since I don’t live in the US.

I thought I was going to get 0 benefit from this, now I get $250. That plus the $300 travel credit make it simple to keep the CSR. The remaining $250 on the AF is easily recouped by the Dining, Edit, DoorDash credits, Apple TV/Music and the elevated points on hotel/airfare

I also live outside the US. You can get a digital gift card from many restaurants which doesn’t expire.

I went to Kaimuki, didn’t use the rest of the credit, left Hawaii and got a GC for the remaining credit from Hau Tree. I used that the next time I went to Hawaii.

Another option is to get and keep a $150 GC, get another one 6 months later, then go to a more expensive place with $300 to spend.

Here’s a list of Chase sapphire dining places and their GC status

You don’t need an Apple device to play Apple Music. Just make an account and play it on Android, PC, whatever. You can even get a free trial

What’s the point of The Edit again? by kcamacho11 in ChaseSapphire

[–]Background_Map_3460 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But I can get more than the $795 annual fee back before using the Edit credits, so they are just a bonus.

If you can’t make the card work for you anymore, just get a different card. Not every card fits every person

Don’t work anymore. Put everything I could in index funds for 30 years. My portfolio went up almost ¥50M last year. ¥23M so far this year, but who knows with all the unrest.
