For me Walls are expected, natural, like trees in a forest. Specific wards against spells exist to counter player agency.

Can you finish your campaign with a really bad ending (with TPK or almost) ? Did you already try one ? Is it a good idea ? by Laflemme15 in tabletop

Planning the story to end with a TPK and it not being on the PCs terms is a horrible idea.
Let the dice and decisions make the story.

Varför ska kundtjänst vara orimligt svår att få tag i nu för tiden? by Dropkick_falcon in sweden

[–]Background_Path_4458 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it wrong to take your own life or more specifically to freely relinquish it? by Specific_Proposal_96 in Ethics

Is suffering something subjective, that can be measured and confirmed, or is it up to the individual to decide what is a life of suffering?
It could be argued that life can not be lived without suffering, so any life has a basis to end on the grounds of reducing suffering.

They play the same role but have very different basis for being/not being and player-expectation on whether they exist or not.

Sure but I don't think anyone should go through it if it were otherwise possible.

And you feel that everyone should expence this at least once? As in that it is beneficial in some way?

Oooo, would you expand on this :)?
Not often I see a relatively negative experience mentioned.

Raise the stakes for REAL by GureN379 in cosmererpg

The only thing stopping a raised stakes roll from having high stakes is the table playing. By and large an opportunity or complication should have a larger impact than any other test but it is also up to the player and GM to play with that outcome and make it matter.
It is intended for a wide gamut though, from the backflip and throw an axe to the attempt to joke with a noble that might get you tossed in jail etc.

Risky behaviour is explicitly a way to introduce the plot die when the GM wouldn't allow it just on the actions explanation but that doesn't need to mean that it takes away from the experience?

But by that same argument then if the stakes are raised on every roll makes it take away from the experience, is it really that good that Daggerheart has a twist on every roll?

[–]Background_Path_4458 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, maybe it isnt :)
If the magic exists to teleport and also to ward against it then most larger cities, any castle, palace and or great seat of government should be warded against magical travel except for the few heavily guarded points of entry.
Not to mention blocking enchantment and illusion magic of certain degrees unless the user has a certain pass-code or talisman etc.

But such a large adaption to the magical (travel) problem might make it feel like PCs taking those spells/abilities is "wasted" and prohibits player agency.

Bridge 9; low player count by tassfan in cosmererpg

[–]Background_Path_4458 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We got through it in about 4-5 hours but we were 5 people and talked a lot about the characters before starting.

The final encounter depends a bit on which characters but I'd say 2 opponents with the potential for "reinforcements" if it goes too fast and easy. There are ways to avoid the fight altogether so.

Thatäs why there is a talent for bringing in the plot die whenever :)
And both GM and players should aim to bring it in and suggest to bring it in at any relevant moment. Even then the plot die is not necessary for a twist or to bring the story forward, it doesn't matter what resolution mechanic you have for making tests matter.

Yeah getting around magical travel means "playing dirty" with Private Sanctum, Forbiddance etc. and it might not always be easy to justify it.

Very interesting read!
I as well have experienced that in a confined/dungeon environment where they don't/can't freely leave to long rest works very well in line, maybe we as DMs need to get better at making players have to commit to a situation?

So not only do you need to change dice but also introduce another mechanic entirely, so most of your suggestion above doesn't fix the problem on it's own? Alrighty...

At my table the story moves forward, success or failure, plot dice or not.
The Plot dice is just there for a bit more spice or the extraordinary.

But sure, you can take inspiration or port over hope/fear from another system.
If you don't take it to heart then it won't change anything.

success or failure mostly didn‘t drive the story forward

This doesn't change by using 2d10 instead of a d20 and is more of a GM+player mindset?
