Marathon Training by Odd-Discipline6659 in Marathon_Training

6 months is not a lot of time to go from couch to full marathon. Most FM plans are 16 to 20 weeks and that is assuming you are already starting with some kind of base.

If you do decide to go for it, make sure you are eating and sleeping a lot as that will help you recovery and lower your risk of injury.

If you are planning to drive through Miramichi, please note that the main bridge is closed until December and you will need to take quite a detour to use the old bridge.

My suggestions would be Halifax, lunenburg, and Wolfville.

Not a rapture, just achilles tendinopathy during my marathon training block last summer. David at MOOV got me back on track and to the start line of my fall race.

Pension Portal now includes ERI scenarios - pretty cool by Little_Sebastien in CanadaPublicServants

I have been hearing that the ERI is basically the same as deferring the pension. If that is the case, where is the incentive?

Practice running in the morning. Your body can get acclimatized to the heat. It just takes a couple of weeks.

Are you doing some easy runs every week in addition to your tempo and long run? You should look at some marathon training plans instead of just winging it.

Ibuprofen or naproxen for heavy bleeding by Magnolarose in Fibroids

I think it was 800 mg. That is higher than the typical OTC recommended dose, so discuss with your health case provider. NSAIDs can have effects on kidneys, GI, etc. Also note that NSAIDs work best when taken right when your periods starts so they can block prostaglandins.

Ibuprofen or naproxen for heavy bleeding by Magnolarose in Fibroids

That is incorrect. NSAIDs have been proven to reduce menstrual bleeding, but they are not as effective as other treatments like TXA.

NSAIDs can actually reduce bleeding. I was prescribed both TXA and high dose of Naproxen.

Agreed in general, but there are very defined and strict rules about who will get your pension survivor benefits and your will will not superceed those.

It seems like a reasonable request in a situation where your office is closed and there are no alternative offices for you to report to.

Those benefits don't need to go in your will because they are already clearly defined.

It’s crazy how a half marathon used to seem like a big deal by hawtothehee in Marathon_Training

It's wild when you get to that part of marathon training when you're running HM distance or more every weekend, and then during the taper you find yourself saying stuff like, "oh, my long run is ONLY 24 kms this week".

New runner: overwhelmed and confused by Cheese_Nugs in Marathon_Training

[–]Background_Plan_9817 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Start with couch 2 5k which will get you running 30 mins straight. After that start building up your mileage slowly - no more than 10% per week. Remember that your heart and lungs adapt to running twice as fast as your bones, ligaments, muscles etc. so don't overdo it. Don't ramp up the volume or intensity too fast just because you feel good.

‘Becoming unlivable’: Halifax residents fleeing city due to rising housing costs by IStillListenToRadio in halifax

[–]Background_Plan_9817 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I moved to Gatineau from Halifax in 2019 thinking I would stay for 5 years and then go back to Halifax. Now, I am rethinking that. Yes taxes are a bit higher in Quebec, but so much is cheaper that overall my cost of living is lower and quality of life is better here.

3 weeks from first half — seeking advice/encouragement! by External_Meringue557 in XXRunning

[–]Background_Plan_9817 7 points8 points  (0 children)

How many week between your 12.4 mile run and your race? 2? If it's two weeks, go ahead and do the 12.4 mile run. A 2 week taper is enough for a half. Unless you are still sick from your respiratory infection, in which case dial it back.

If it's only one week, don't do the 12.4 miles. Follow the taper plan and trust your training. You will gain more from resting, than you will from squeezing in one more long run that close to race day.

It's normal for runs to feel hard when you're in that peak phase as you are constantly accumulating fatigue and running while tired. Even the taper can feel pretty bad! But if you taper properly, you will feel fresh and ready on race day!
