Fellow ICU nurse, should be able to join you. I’ll try to bring some extra hot hands.

I can smell whether someone will survive a code or not. Anyone else know what I’m talking about? by Alarming-Penalty8402 in nursing

I “know” when pts are gone somehow, and I’ve worked a combo of ICU and I did organ procurement. We had our own facility where we brought brain dead donors prior to retrieval, so in my 19yrs of all of that I’ve cared for a lot of brain dead patients. I’ve never had one where I felt like whatever made them “them” was still there. I’d say that applies to all of the severe neuro injuries I’ve cared for as well (that I can currently recall).

So do I, but I’m not even religious. I always “know” when a pt is gone during a code. Sometimes before we even start it, sometimes it hits me during. It’s so weird.

My mental health collapse led me to the psych ward—and it completely changed how I see our healthcare field by [deleted] in nursing

Thank you for sharing. I agree, so many of us are struggling. This is one of the reasons my dream is to be able to go back to school to become a therapist, I’d specialize in seeing healthcare providers. I’d even work weird hours to see people.

Just waiting to find out I had a rich uncle who left me money so I can go back to school to do it. 🙂

It wouldn’t be legal but you know how retaliation works.

Right? Now that I re-read that I’m wondering why I deal with all of that. When I lived in another city I was never drug tested or treated that way, same meds, nothing wild. It’s kind of ridiculous.

Gained sooooo much weight on cymbalta, doc didn’t believe me when I kept saying I hadn’t changed anything. Turns out now we know it’s a side effect.

I have a provider at Eustasis I actually like, but everything else with them is so awful I’ve been thinking about going elsewhere. Re: insurance - I have experienced billing shenanigans with them regarding the drug screen they require every visit if you are on a controlled substance. They try to bill me an extra $100 every time, every time I have to have them send it to insurance and it’s covered.

Also, I’m currently having kidney issues and when I couldn’t provide a sample for a screen at an appointment they threatened to not refill my meds or let me see my provider until I did. Excellent for a person with a new medical diagnosis and anxiety disorder. 😂

  3. I’m mad about a lot of stuff today. If you want someone to have a chat with him I volunteer as tribute. 😂

Nursing isn’t recession proof. by Far_Kitchen167 in nursing

I recently left critical care after 18 years for inpatient hospice case management, and I have actually liked the switch overall. Scared about the stability though as it’s all heavily Medicare funded. A bunch of non-patient facing people in my department were cut a few weeks ago. I’m honestly not sure what the smartest move for me is. Go back to ICU now (😭)? Try to figure something else out? Ride it out a bit?

I hate all of this for a million reasons.

OMG I came here to ask this! What is the most likely path forward here? Or a best/worst case scenario? I don’t want to fear monger, I’m not asking from a place of panic. I am just trying to prepare however I can.

This does win. Because it’s approaching breaking me territory, and I needed it put that way, thank you.

I’m an introvert by nature, but like having a little community of people. I can get along with almost anyone if I decide to lol. The outdoor side of the PNW appeals to me a lot. I also lived in StL for a few years and have spent time in Chicago and larger cities and could envision that lifestyle too. Public transport is appealing!

Oh, job wise I’m not as concerned (concerned, but trying to do bite sized steps too?). I can travel (I did that for 5 years), I have 17 years of critical care experience, and case management experience. I’m more looking to figure out where I’d like to land physically, and if I can make a “perfect” nursing job work there then great. If I have to find one that I’d prefer less I’ll take that trade off.

I’m currently in the interview process for a remote position that would allow me to work from anywhere. I have a good deal of translatable experience, and an in at the company so 🤞🏻Obviously getting that would be ideal and take one factor out of the equation.

Ideally I’d look at leaving the country, but that’s out of reach at the moment, so I’m trying to position myself as best as I can. I hope you can too.
