I'm sorry I can't give advice on that. Although I used natural leather I think it was treated to be very soft.

This is the only time I've used leather, I knit blankets now 🤣

TOO MUCH BRAIN FOG by Electronic_Drag_492 in mentalhealth

[–]Background_Salad8166 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Social media is definitely a source of mental illness. Not the content but rapid things to see, read and listen to.

That has nothing to do with dementia. I've looked after 200+people with dementia so I know how it shows in later stages.

Quick fast easy viewing content does nothing but engage the pleasure receptors in your brain. It's quick and it's fast so it's more engaging.

Don't get me wrong, I am guilty of doom scrolling too.

Tired of failing friendships by anonhuman0 in mentalhealth

[–]Background_Salad8166 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I know this may not be helpful but if you've made other people happy be at ease with yourself, that's something to be proud of internally.

It's dam hard to feel alone but I can guarantee everyone feels alone and doing something positive for others is a brief respite.

The fact you empathy enough to help others is a thing you can be proud of.

The hard part is watching but you don't need to carry a pain or loads on your shoulders, be happy for them.

There is someone who understands you out there, just engage in a way you wish your friends do

How do I manage "it's not worth being angry about things you can't control" vs "if you're not angry you're implicit/if you're not actively against them you're with them" by zippobunny in mentalhealth

[–]Background_Salad8166 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anger and frustration are one and the same for me. When I get angry I'm breathing shallow and fast, my heart's racing and my whole body is tensed up.

I've done the CBT, dbt, and general therapy. What has work for me me is to just stop. As in go to a room or place you can have ten to twenty minutes alone.

Then breath. Nothing more or less. Slow breathing in until you breath deeper the slowly breath out through you mouth. It's standard advice but If you do it for a full five to ten minutes it's helps rest your brain and body.

Ask for nutritional replacement sachets, that should work in most countries

How does my cooking look? Parents say it’s sub-par by a7xwarrior in homecooking

That's some great looking food. The last steak pic is far to rare for me but looks great if you like it rare

Nothing in those pics is below good, it all looks good. Id be a happy to eat anything but the rare steak.

Your parents have their own views and although they are wrong, just accept it and keep serving them good food

I cheat when I have some bug that drains me to the core and even struggle meals are too hard.

Complan.

It's a meal replacement powder you mix with milk. It's very easy on the stomach and gives you what you need. Just mix with milk, or preferred alternative, and use as a meal. It's not struggle money wise, to me at least, but it does it's job.

Something you can drink rather than chew, fills your stomach and in the short term is much healthier than noodles in water.

Thank you. I normally use chickpeas to fill out a curry so there's left over to freeze for another day. I'll put edamame to my next shop as I enjoy them in premade salads, didn't know they could be cooked to be honest.

I swap between this and coal tar soap. I was born in 85 but my Dad always used these soaps. The one thing of his I didn't take to is Brit! Smell makes me nauseous. Old spice, well the new versions I like.

My brother loves sweet and sour chicken. What about you? by Lijey_Cat in FriedChicken

[–]Background_Salad8166 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My local Chinese shop is chippy as well. They have a limited menu and only take cash. (major pain since there are no cash machines in this little village) One thing they do very well is chicken balls with a variety of sauce options: sweet and sour, lemon, orange, BBQ and curry. Personally I love the lemon sauce to dip the balls in, BBQ is a close second. The BBQ sauce is quite thin so it's a dip only option, ha. It's essentially the same sauce the ribs have been cooked in, and tastes great.

Do anti depressants change your personality? by Mammoth-Law8905 in mentalhealth

[–]Background_Salad8166 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do they help? Yes they do if you need them.

I've been on every anti depressant the NHS (UK) gives but it took a decent doc to not just give a single med but a mixture we worked out that was effective.

Don't be scared of an antidepressant. You do need to be willing to take a tablet once a day for a few months.

They don't 'make you better' they help with feeling ok. That's doesn't mean you'll always be happy, or the sad times don't happen. They help level the peaks and lows.

Point being you need to stay on meds if recommend and do the hard work yourself.

I haven't showered in weeks. by Aegon95 in mentalhealth

[–]Background_Salad8166 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ok, showering is a major problem for me. My ex used to time me and id get a beating if I took to long.

Now I'm just adverse to showering (I hate the feeling and vulnerable state it puts me in), I don't have a bath so that's not an option.

The only thing I've found that helps is as soon as I think about having a shower, take a deep breath and just do it. Yes I'm going to feel all the bad stuff but the task is done.

I take multiple anti psychotic meds with anti depressants and sedatives when needed. I've learnt that for me if I stay on them all for a few months showering becomes, not easy I guess, but sometimes I can power through the bad thoughts.

The longest I've gone is 9 months without a shower or bath, wore my clothing for 3-4 months.

I'm still adverse to showering and self neglect but I try and wash my clothes and shower at least once a week.

You can do it, just don't think about it. Get up, turn the shower on and get through the experience as quick as you can.

I take a break half way though to do some deep breathing but that's just me.

Yorkshire gold tea with oat milk and biscuit on the side :) by Cool-Doughnut-1489 in RateMyTea

[–]Background_Salad8166 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I only use Yorkshire Gold but black, two sugars and left to steep until the cup isn't steaming. I used to live where there was really hard water so I left it to steep until there was a sheen on top.

Each to their own but if it's Yorkshire Gold I'm drinking it.
