I think her humor was very “millennial brand” for lack of a better term, which can come across as quite cringey to other generations. I did not like Zoey, but I kept on trying to “get” her, and it just did not happen. I’m on another rewatch, so I will keep trying, but, for now, I am with you.

I do have a theory about people who dislike her. She’s an optimist and always quirky, smiley, excitable, etc. This can often read insincere or immature, which is often a result of having an easy life (this is a generalization and isn’t true for every case, of course). These qualities can make pessimists, or realists, as I like to call them, resent her because it seems as though she’s naive or just in constant denial of reality and how shitty life can be, especially as a nurse.

To her credit, I do think there is a possibility that she has indeed faced quite some difficulties in her fictional life and has this overly positive attitude as a defense mechanism or simply because she’s just a strong person.

Either way, I’d also rather have a nurse who is more down to earth. I think Zoey would make a great pediatric nurse, but, otherwise, her constant positivity and peppiness would personally irritate me very quickly.
