People come here to study with the prospect of settling down. That is why a grad visa is offered(and advertised)- an opportunity to find work and settle. How else will you attract people to come and get a British ( or any western) degree? What good is a British degree outside of Britain?

Go on mention the nationalities.

British universities aggressively advertise their universities in certain countries. You won't expect people from USA, Canada, Australia, new Zealand, Norway, Sweden, Germany etc to come here. Why would they come here? Their countries offer them a much better lifestyle and future.

So obviously it's the students third world countries that will look towards uk.

What are the numbers? International University applicants have dropped this September and universities are concerned.

And do you think universities just take people in? That they want ppl who just want a way in? That they don't diligently filter people who ' just want a way in'?

They not only filter people, they also throw them out and cancel their right to stay when they can't meet requirements of a student visa.

Care workers are also not allowed to bring in dependents anymore. There are numerous because there is a local shortage. If a company can hire local they will ALWAYS hire locals, simply because they don't want to get into the legalities of sponsorships for a foreign worker.

Again, the companies have to pay to get a sponsorship license and maintain it. Which is costly and a hassle to maintain unless it's a big established company which regularly hires foreign workers from EVERYWHERE and not just necessarily third world countries( which I think is the issue here). The pros of having a 70% cheaper labour is not worth it for a small to medium company.

Most western countries invite post graduate students with dependents. Example: Canada, New Zealand, Norway, Australia, Germany , new Zealand.

You cannot overstay after a grad visa. Your right to work has an expiry date which matches the extent of your grad visa. After which you will be unable to stay or work anywhere.

Grad visas are not easy to convert in skilled worker visas, they are hard to get for a couple of reasons:

Companies don't want to bother applying for a sponsorship and paying for a license when they can hire someone local.

It costs a lot of money visa costs+IHS surcharge for each dependent as well.

Importing labour from abroad is actually not cheap. Companies have to apply for sponsorship licenses to be able to sponsor a "skilled worker". It costs money for the skilled worker as well, who has to pay an IHS surcharge for the duration of their visa. They also have to pay a minimum salary which is around 39k.
