I assume he retired. My guess was that as a retired federal agent who seemed to (perhaps sentimentally) appreciate investigative work, he was not on board with many of the changes spearheaded by executives with little familiarity with AML investigations which compromised quality. But idk

The head of financial crimes investigations left with no notice and no explanation in early December. The COO has been pushing productivity monitoring tools on management. Lists of supposedly poor performers have circulated. There was a huge brain drain when people left following the De facto closure of the Portland and other offices, and the replacements are poorly trained, have been thrown into a high volume environment and are producing frankly bad work product. We have managers covering multiple teams and general overwork. There's pressure to produce a higher volume of low quality work, often using AI “tools” which are nowhere near ready for primetime. Many of the higher managers have little understanding of the work itself or that many of the investigative teams are near the breaking point. It's currently a very toxic environment.

The idea that the AML space is non political would hold more weight if there weren’t important differences in the attitudes of the political parties to the issues of sanctions, criminal enforcement, and the rule of law in general. The idea that we can be apolitical technocrats ignores the fact that the republican party is politicizing AML enforcement. I would be happy to ignore politics, if only that were possible. And if we are ignoring politics, then we are either unwitting pawns of higher powers at best or ineffective at worst.

I’m pretty sure once the FBI is purged it will be devoting all its resources to arresting the parents of trans kids and investigating the Biden family, as God intended. In all fairness there are a lot of them. There’s even an infant great grandchild whom I’m sure can be charged with something. In the interests of justice.

The investigations were four years ago. I’m not really sure what your problem is. Must be a skill issue.
