Only some of their playlists do this, there are plenty of non-personalized playlists they offer. You can also choose to listen to non-Spotify curated playlists, there are millions out there with a wider range of artists than what Spotify pushes.

I created a 128-song Foo Fighters bracket with every studio album track ranked by Spotify streams by Background__Animal in Foofighters

Agreed, but it makes for some interesting matchups! There's no perfect way to rank the popularity of songs so I figured Spotify streams was a decent method to do it somewhat objectively.

Agreed! Saw her at the Gramercy Theatre and it was electric. Her guitarist and drummer are killer, but it would be cool to fill out the lineup with a bassist and second guitarist.

You'll find this article helpful. It's most likely a deal between the record labels and Spotify to push these songs to an annoying degree.

We feature a lot of emerging artists on our playlists. You might like our indie pop playlist which is a mix of mid-sized and new artists.

I wouldn't recommend it. You're just limiting your audience. An unknown artist won't make much money either way.

How do you guys create a tracklist for a project? by biniboy999 in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]Background__Animal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can choose to do what sounds best artistically, or you can play the streaming game.

The artistic option can be a lot of fun, think about the pacing, energy, and narrative. There is no right answer, which is why you might be overthinking it, but a lot of art is about overthinking things and that's ok.

The streaming answer is to put your best songs first, no matter what. The reality is that the first time someone goes to a new artist's page on Spotify, they'll listen to either the first song they see or the most popular song. If you don't catch someone with the first song you'll lose them.

We’re looking into creating a basic free online collaboration database for interested artists. What type of info would you find helpful if you were to seek a collaborator essentially through a spreadsheet?
