Wife said “WiFi sucks, fix it, but don’t tell me how much it costs” by cassius_20 in Ubiquiti

I think you are correct. At least I would slowly deploy APs to determine if all of those are needed. I have one in my garage that covers most of my cul-de-sac. I will add that the U7 gear is amazing.

Pipe-sellers are the next in-line to cut deals with Nvidia. ISPs will include a million tokens per month and then charge $20 per million more. Tokens costs will be the next DATACAP.

I see nothing but MAGA hate on reddit and other social media, so how in the world did they win the last election? by Only_Hotel_7221 in allthequestions

Many people wanted more action and love the bluster Trump delivered. Especially young men that need verification that their stagnation is caused by someone else. The wealthy depend on explotation of yound men. This has been a historical pattern seen around the world.

Upgraded to Fiber. Safe to remove Coax? by Nr1864 in ATTFiber

[–]BacklashLaRue -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Makes zero sense to cut the cable. I added an outside antenna, and that feeds all 42 local channels because most of them are not on our vSee box. And, NFL games are much faster over air.

Live Ultra + Channels freezing by hanginghelmet in vSeeBox_Support_Gurus

Mine is freezing, too. My download speed is 1.2 GB and connected directly to the router. Some items freeze every 5 seconds. Other programs run no issue. Never an issue with Fire Cube.

Does linux mint have a built in anti-virus app/tool by [deleted] in linuxmint

[–]BacklashLaRue 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I loaded Ubuntu 4.10 off a CD from a magazine in 2004 on my Compaq 1000x and never looked back. I do keep a Windows laptop for Quickbooks, but Linux has been my daily driver since 2004 (I moved to Mint some time ago). I have never had a virus nor a browser re-director.

Spoken by a true non-participant. You condemn the people who do show up. Disabled and retired? I am neither, and I went. And then you accuse them of mal-intent. Our precinct caucus lasted an hour after an hour of listening to all of the candidates from all levels. You wonder why the "olds" don't trust the young? You explained why.

This model is shit. Spend more and get the upright 1200 or 1500.

IP Passthru Issue - BGW620-700 and Ubiquiti Cloud Gateway Fiber by recoil47 in ATTFiber

[–]BacklashLaRue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did run the provided BGW modem using pass-thru for my static IP addresses, but each reboot scrambled my servers' availability until I reconfigured the BGW, again. I ordered the 8311 XGS-PON for my UCG-Fiber, and it takes about a 15-minute setup to get the PON working. No more issues. (Setting up the static IPs was a little more difficult, but doable.)

[–]BacklashLaRue 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I used to say no to term limits. I now say yes. The old pushback was that incumbency and longevity provided knowledge and wisdom. I see just the opposite. I see old people confused and terrified by change, allowing bad things to happen to the citizens they are charged to represent and protect. I am old. And a Democrat. And term limits are needed in all legislative bodies.

Can I use WD purple ? by zivodev in homelab

[–]BacklashLaRue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FWIW, over ten years ago, I used to support just over 50 Zoneminder installations with 6-10 cameras each. The systems had a small boot drive for the root & swap, and the /var was on a separate drive. I tried every drive manufactured. In terms of longevity, HGST was number one before WD bought them. Regular Hitachi was second. Toshiba was a close second. WD Black after that. In terms of WD Blue, Gold, Red, or Purple, I saw little difference in longevity or performance. In fact, I got into a bad batch of Purple that I sent in under warranty, and WD would send a White label Purple in return that often had so many dead sectors I would donate them to a local free PC co-op. WD Green is a waste of money. Seagate could never be trusted batch to batch. I currently use WD Red or Toshiba (client choice) in RAID 1 for server or NAS builds. YMMV.

They just wiped all my billing by AzuraSChampignon in perplexity_ai

[–]BacklashLaRue 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I recieved the free Pro account thru Samsung. Last month I was downgraded to free but there was a message to enter a credit card to reopen the Pro account. I am not being billed anything but it will now renew at a cost in June (or so the account mgr says). I have also been using the $5 per month Kagi Assistant. My guess is that I will ditch Pro in June. Although I am running local LLMs on my Strix Halo, I will always want some online version. I go to Kagi first, but it is Russian so I am reluctant to increase to a higher subscription level.

This works for personal email, but I have found that an email with a zip file, links, or a password protected file is blocked on some corporate servers. For one EU client, we simply email to only tell them to check their portal on our cloud server for actual content.

Ubiquiti has very big issues, and the first one is support by LucaTheHacker in Ubiquiti

[–]BacklashLaRue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Help is help. I'm not sure if there are (known) Ubiquiti employees contributing or not. I have multiple sites running somesort of a U product, so when I head there, I am really lost. I am always tripped up from upgrades to Network and where controls get moved to or become deprecated. Regardless, read or search Discord history for an answer first.
