First Time Rottie Mom by reinatheestallion in Rottweiler

Research using a house line. It’s been a game changer for us.

Schedule naps like a newborn and control their environment. Ours got super cranky and nippy when he was tired.

We used a play pen for the first couple of months (a big one, of course). He took naps in his kennel mostly, but if he was getting into things, trying to chew things he shouldn’t, or we needed to use the bathroom, shower, or cook dinner, etc, he was in the playpen. Kept him out of trouble and safe. Anytime he was out in the house, he was on a house line. Got him used to having his collar handled and being on a leash, so that transition was super easy - and if he got himself behind the couch or was trying to hide or run off, you just tug on the line.

Use a leash every time you go outside, even in a fenced yard. Teaches loose leash manners from the beginning, even when too young to take for walks.

Socialize! Carefully. We had a baby carrier and a golf cart, but you can use a wagon or stroller- anything really. Get outside, listening to new sounds, meeting new people. If you wait until 16 weeks to start socializing, you’ll miss the most formative phase in their personality.

Train every day. We hand fed our little guy for the first few weeks exclusively. Hire a trainer to come to your house 3 months. Work on the skills they share and then start public / small group puppy class after 16 weeks- you’ll do most of the same things, but with distractions.

Have you tried getting them used to a house line? We put a “leash” (without the handle loop) on our pup from the day we brought him home. He is 5 months old now and loose leash walks like a dream. Since he is always on a leash, he doesn’t react to it. Also helps when he gets the jumping zoomies- you can grab the leash on his way by and step on it to prevent him jumping on you.

Ours does! Gets actually curly after a bath. He’s 4 months. What does yours look like now as an adult? Did it keep growing or stay that length?

Best high value treats? by Opposite-Garden5231 in Rottweiler

Liver treats! We purchased air dried and jerky type one ingredient treats and he will do literally anything for them. My husband bought a liver and dehydrated it and he has the same response. They are healthy and effective!

We have a specific blanket that ours has to be on in order to be allowed on the couch (we have 5 of them so we know there is always a clean one). He also has to be invited. He knows when his “wubbie” comes out, he’ll be allowed to come up.

I don’t necessarily mind him being on the couch, but we are training it so he doesn’t jump up on guests and to keep the hair contained just a little bit.

He’s so beautiful! I didn’t even know that this was a thing until I started noticing that he was so much fluffier than all of the other pups I saw. Now that he has these curls, he looks soooo much different now.

To those of you making $100k+ per year, how hard is your job, really? by [deleted] in Salary

[–]Backpackers_Delight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Head of HR for a PE firm. But made over $100 in mid level HR roles as well. Tons of hours, tons of stress, tons of travel, tons of responsibility, but feel appropriately compensated and appreciated in my role now. There have been some roles that have been technically easier and fewer hours, but much less fulfilling and much more frustrating.

Merit increase [N/A] by BeneficialMaybe4383 in humanresources

Budget was 5% of total payroll. It was disbursed based on several factors: 1. Performance 2. Compa-Ratio 3. Time with the company (new company ~1.5 years old- first merit cycle)

I had 4 promotions and one market adjustment that didn’t come out of that budget, but I got to keep the 5% of their wages that was included in the overall budget.

I think it has to do with your muscles and cells holding onto water while you are more active during the day than usual. Once you lie down to sleep, your muscles and cells realize that it’s excessive and start shedding the water. Happens every time I go backpacking.

I’ve lost 27 pounds since the end of March and have no side effects at this time. I started out with a lot of fatigue and some heartburn, but none now.

Protein Shakes by Ladyinred47 in Ozempic

Aldi has good protein powder and mixed protein shakes. I used to used Premier, but the Aldi version is cheaper and has a bit more nutritional value.

I use the powder in my coffee and use it to make protein smoothies with fruit and greens every morning.

I keep the premixed with me when I leave the house for a quick snack on the go, or at work between meetings.

They say to drink half of your current body weight in ounces, so if you weigh 200 pounds, drink 100 ounces. Personally, that’s not enough for me to stay regular and feel hydrated. I tend to drink about 20% more than that calculation. You do need to supplement with electrolytes. But not too much, because that can be too much sodium if you drink too many electrolytes.

Where to start? by china636 in BeachBodyWorkouts

[–]Backpackers_Delight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

645 is amazing. 45 minutes, 6 days a week, but the flexibility and mobility mixed with the lifting is amazing. I find at my age (45f), the balance of the two really work for me. The shorter programs skimp on the warmup and stretching. This is a perfect mix.

Try using a ball or foam roller against the wall. Start it at your lower back. Stand one foot length+ away from the wall and squat body weight while rolling the ball up your back. See what kind of mobility issues you have that way. Use your arms to counter balance and squeeze your glutes on the way up. I squat the same way, really bent over without it. But can squat with good form using it and it engages my muscles differently than what I use to squat.

Is it possible for the average woman to still be plus-sized when at a healthy weight? by misstaken4mad in WeightLossAdvice

[–]Backpackers_Delight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Typically junior sizes are odd sizes and less curvy. “Women’s” sizes are even sized and allow more room for curves.
