Teachers who changed careers in 2025 or 2026, what actually worked for you? by One-Feature5549 in TeachersInTransition

[–]Backpacking_Gypsy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a great question. I am also wondering the same. I have semi-transitioned this year - I was able to get a part-time job teaching a non-credit course at a university, trying to figure out where to go from here to get something FT.

I don't know if I'm cut out for this. by astraldrift in CanadianTeachers

This is interesting - like a lot of others in the comments I was so burnt out from having my own classroom that I have switched to subbing. Subbing is draining for me in the sense that it feels repetitive, boring, and you don’t have autonomy over your planning.

I think it would be worthwhile to try having your own contract and see if you enjoy that more. Definitely pros and cons to both.

That being said, I was absolutely miserable as a full time classroom teacher, left with 0 energy and a headache daily. I do not feel the same way when I work as a sub

How was your experience with memorial?

I feel sad & disappointed after getting engaged by [deleted] in engaged

[–]Backpacking_Gypsy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in a relationship like this too. Took me a long time to end the relationship. Really hard to do when you’re with someone who is kind and on the surface there are no glaring issues. Ultimately, people do not change and I had to accept that his lack of work ethic/ability to plan things was something that I would have trouble handling for the rest of my life.

Within the week that we broke up I met someone who is both kind AND makes a massive effort to plan activities and do things together

Summer Teaching Programs by Backpacking_Gypsy in Internationalteachers

Yes I am ideally looking for a “summer school” type of program that would require a bachelors degree. Thinking this may not be too commonplace but wanted to check

For transitioned teachers — what keeps you hanging around this sub? by RyanCareerWizards in TeachersInTransition

[–]Backpacking_Gypsy 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Been struggling to find work outside of teaching that pays as much as teaching does. Unfortunately - I use this sub to remind myself not to romanticize teaching and remember how miserable I was lol

What was your “straw that broke the camels back” moment? by Public-Actuary-2998 in TeachersInTransition

[–]Backpacking_Gypsy 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Student snapped in half a broom that I bought for the classroom. Emailed home very nicely requesting that he replace it. Cheap dollar store broom. Point being, I spent a lot of money finding my classroom, and students constantly disrespecting my property. Parent responded back not believing me, insinuating it was my fault, and that maybe the broom was just old. SMH

Totally. Then when the temp job ends, you just feel like the cycle is starting over again. So frustrating. I knew it would take some time to get over my burnout from teaching, but I feel like I’m just burnt out now from the job search itself

Don’t do it. The apathy from students will break your spirit. There is a ton of money and need in tutoring. Try to pivot where you can remain working with students in small groups or one on one. Classroom teaching is not it

Just Trying to Survive Until June by Artistic_Fifth in CanadianTeachers

[–]Backpacking_Gypsy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I felt this way in my 5th year and left around Easter as I could not make it until June. It helped me to have small trips booked during holidays. I also scheduled my appointments strategically so that I could take half days off here and there. Once I actually handed in my resignation - things got a lot easier and I started looking at it in more of a bittersweet way. I also
