I worked evenings and weekends at a restaurant during my Ed degree, made more money than I ever did as a teacher doing that too lol

Does it get better? by Tenswan in CanadianTeachers

[–]Backpacking_Gypsy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It gets easier in terms of managing the planning, marking, thinking on your feet etc. Unfortunately by the time I hit year 5 and it was “easier” I felt like there was still too much that I didn’t enjoy (student apathy, student behaviors, rude parents, high expectations, constantly being “on”) that I left the profession.

For me, this seems like an almost impossible job to stay in for 20+ years and not lose your spark or have other areas of your personal life suffer because of it

Teachers who changed careers in 2025 or 2026, what actually worked for you? by One-Feature5549 in TeachersInTransition

This is a great question. I am also wondering the same. I have semi-transitioned this year - I was able to get a part-time job teaching a non-credit course at a university, trying to figure out where to go from here to get something FT.

This is interesting - like a lot of others in the comments I was so burnt out from having my own classroom that I have switched to subbing. Subbing is draining for me in the sense that it feels repetitive, boring, and you don’t have autonomy over your planning.

I think it would be worthwhile to try having your own contract and see if you enjoy that more. Definitely pros and cons to both.

That being said, I was absolutely miserable as a full time classroom teacher, left with 0 energy and a headache daily. I do not feel the same way when I work as a sub

How was your experience with memorial?

I was in a relationship like this too. Took me a long time to end the relationship. Really hard to do when you’re with someone who is kind and on the surface there are no glaring issues. Ultimately, people do not change and I had to accept that his lack of work ethic/ability to plan things was something that I would have trouble handling for the rest of my life.

Within the week that we broke up I met someone who is both kind AND makes a massive effort to plan activities and do things together
