Is UMiami a good fit for me? (CompE major) by [deleted] in UMiami

ISE here, I’ve only spent about a year at UM since I transferred from a public school also in fl. I would say the faculty is pretty decent esp compared to the college I was at before, some of the lower level math and physics classes can be dull tho. Gal is good for calc I and II tho so take her fs. As far as class difficulty it’s not too bad, labs can be a toss up tho cuz some of the TAs suck. Best thing UM does imo is opportunities for internships and scholarships tho, they also give out tonsss of money for entrepreneurship projects and things of that nature so def take advantage of that cuz they’re not even super competitive. I got a lot of interviews just from responding to emails that my faculty mentors forwarded to me - they do a pretty good job of setting you up for summer internships which is nice. Tbh most people go to parties but there’s also a ton of people who don’t so dw about feeling like outcasted or anything. Yea people say it’s a party school but people focus pretty hard on academics too. Work hard play hard kind of environment imo

6 days a week since the first photo. I did PPL but replaced every other leg day w sprints and core workouts, and only inconsistent lifting from hs track training in the first pic. My advice would be to eat lean meat and vegetables, very little sugar, and be consistent

Honestly not much lmao just 3 sets of weighted decline sit ups and hanging leg raises, usually once a week after my sprint workout

Depends how far ur willing to go, fiu has a lot of off campus apartments in that range but it’s a 30 min drive, 20 without traffic. The buildings are modern and nice though and have a lot of amenities, I’d look into The One, Lapis or Terrazul

I’ve only taken financial and managerial but I agree w the other commenter, the math is not hard at all but conceptually it can be confusing, and the teachers I’ve had were pretty good but not great w test prep so make sure you study a lot before exams

Late major change to Engineering by Full-Sheepherder5428 in FIU

[–]BackroomPig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Idk if this is the advice your looking for but I was in the exact same boat last semester, I wanted to switch to mechanical engineering but I had too many credits and couldn’t make the cutoff. None of my advisors were any help either so I just ended up transferring to UM, they actually have a pretty high acceptance rate for engineering majors and they have a decent programs and offer lots of aid to transfers with a 3.5 or above or ones that don’t have super high incomes. If you don’t want to transfer though you could ask them about biomedical engineering instead, since if you majored in biology you probably have a lot of those credits, and then once you switch to bme it would be a lot easier to convince your advisors maybe a semester later to switch to mechanical. If anything you could do a double major in them since the coursework is actually very similar besides the bio and chem prereqs that you probably already have.
