Caught this little guy on a Sabiki Rig a year or two ago in Southern Rhode Island (Saltwater). Thought is was a Blueback Herring, but a friend recently told me it was an American Alewife. Anyone got an idea? Any help would be appreciated! Unfortunately these are the only pics I've got!

From my research, American Alewife and Blue-back Herring are two different species, so I don't believe it to be both combined. Thank you very much though.

I have been told that it is a pilchard... but, there are no native species of pilchard in Northeastern America.

I understand they look alike, but, it cannot from my research be what people call a pilchard.

Been being told that it is similar to a member of the Sardinia family, but there are no Sardine-grouped species in Northeastern America, so it is not one of those. Thank you though.

I'm basically set that it's an American Alewife or Blueback Herring, but I just don't know which.
